Hi squad

Does anyone know of anywhere in the province with balls big enough to work on ECUs?

I think my DPF woes stem from a faulty surface mount component on the DDE ecu on the BM and while there are indeed places on the mainland who would do it, it would be preferable, safer and probably quicker local

this is proper micro soldering like or else I would have a chop at it

Right, thought I would pop an update in here.

Had continually been talking myself out of this as it is just too scary for my brain to deal with. Add to the fact that any "specialist" places on the mainland who do this implicitly stated that this particular ECU is a ball ache if something goes wrong and they cannot guarantee a successful clone to another ecu if i was even able to get one.

However, the car continually doing regens and associated dilution of the oil and brutal MPG pushed me over the edge, along with the fact that the little (did I say LITTLE?) component arrived from the states.

So, pulled the ECU and attempted to split it (to reduce time)..............ahh, nope. Heat, scalpels........nothing. Fused together with dark matter it would seem.

Put the ecu back into the car and ripped up to Derek @ Hobsons Electronics. Caught them at lunch and they were closed and stupid busy. When they opened, they could have told me to clear off as I had just landed up unannounced.

But no, Derek just told me to pull the ECU then and there and he would look.

Handed him the VERY sealed ECU and he took it away to see if he could help. I sat playing with the biggest sweetest dog ever while I waited

Derek came back in around 10 minutes with the ecu opened and the part replaced asking me to test it. I was amazed tbh.

Popped the ECU back into the car ( in some of the most ridiculous rain ever, curse you Dungannon ) spun up ISTA and well........problem solved. Atmospheric pressure reporting perfectly and reported (calculated) back pressure of the DPF sitting at around 5hPa at idle now that the sensors are working which is fine.

Still have to reset some adaptations as found another VAC leak but even without this, passive regens seem to be on top of the soot mass without the (BIG) active regens all the time.

So, TLDR.

Derek @ Hobsons is actually legendary, lovely to deal with and so easy paid.

I cannot speak highly enough of this place and Derek in general. Thanks for the recommendations, really

Never ends tho does it lads. Oil arsing out of the back of the rocker cover onto the dpf (and driveway) is next on the list so part(s) ordered............that's my Christmas break nuked

And yes. Diesel injector removal. Don't want to talk about it

Let me have some time to bask in the ECU repair and then I can start panic posting
