Are there any big changes planned for 2016?

If it's anything like 2015, I won't be watching!

Not anything huge

Taken from the F1 website

Also announced at Wednesday’s World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meeting in Paris were new rules to increase the noise of cars. From 2016, all cars must have a separate exhaust wastegate tailpipe through which all and only wastegate exhaust gases must pass. This move will not have any significant effect on power or emissions.

Several other changes were announced to the F1 regulations. They were:

  • Cars must now comply with all cockpit and safety equipment requirements during testing; such as the position of the driver’s head, all headrest padding, cockpit padding and ease of driver egress.
  • Sporting Regulations regarding track limits have been clarified and specify that drivers “must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not deliberately leave the track without a justifiable reason”. Penalties will still be allocated based on whether a driver is judged to have gained an advantage.
  • The WMSC approved the proposal of the F1 Commission regarding regulations for power unit and gearbox changes. Such penalties prior to qualifying will be applied based on the time of use. For changes made after qualifying, preference will be given to the driver whose team first informed the technical delegate that a change will occur.
  • Any driver who causes a start to be aborted, even if he is then able to start the extra formation lap, will be required to start the race from the pit lane. The same process will be applied to a re-start from a race suspension where drivers have been brought to the pit lane.
  • The WMSC confirmed a number of clarifications were made to aerodynamic testing restrictions for wind tunnel use and CFD, specifically focusing on reporting and inspection processes for these development tools.
  • For 2017, on board cameras on stalks on the nose of cars will be prohibited.

Supposedly bigger changes for 2017. But I guess everyone knows what the main problem is, and that is not going to change.

With any luck maybe Ferrari can challenge Merc a bit more, but that is really best case scenario.

Honda and Renault will be nowhere near.

Saw mention of discussions between Ron Denis and Alonso, about Fernando maybe taking a "sabbatical" next year. Alonso still saying he will be racing, but could well see the "sabbatical" happening unless some miracle happens and they get significantly more competitive. The amount of money poured into that black hole by Honda and McL is staggering, and the way the rules and politics work it is highly unlikely they will be anywhere near Merc. So not having to pay 30M a year to Alonso would make total sense.

2016 could see a team or two almost forget about the whole year and concentrate on 2017 when the regulations are overhauled. (think Brawn 2009)

2016 will be much the same as this year, only interesting point will be how close Ferrari can get to Mercedes, if at all.

F1 regulations need to allow cars to follow each other much more closely, that is the biggest problem in my eyes.

Almost got used to the hybrid engines noise, or lack there of, but an increase wouldn't go a miss.

Roll on March & Melbourne

True.

Doubt RB will put much effort into 2016, stuck with last year's Renault as they are. Then again, cannot see where they will go in 2017 either, they will still not have a competitive engine...

Be interesting to see how HAAS get on for the first year

Would like to see Vettel push and the Mercs more and take a few more wins than this year.

Haas look like becoming a Torro Rosso to Ferrari. All the others are already moaning that Ferrari will be using Haas for testing bits for the "factory" team :innocent:

I read somewhere that they won't be using tyre blankets next year that should mix it up a bit if it's true. All customer teams must also get the same spec engine as used by the works team as well. Hopefully this will help pull the other cars nearer to the front.

Can't see that being true, would make the tyres dangerously ungrippy, they need to be hot.

Just seems a bizarre idea if it is true. Where's the advanatge in it? All the teams will suffer a drop off in grip relative to their performance so it's just going to increase first lap incidents.

I was watching one of the practices and it was talked about that gp2 don't have tyre blankets what bother do they have?
Different tyre compounds, probably work better when cold as don't need to deal with as high of temperatures as F1

And when they come out from a pit stop, cant see it happening.

Such a pity they have ruined f1 I prefer to watch dvds from the 60s to mid 2000 than watching a current live race. I'm sure next year will be just as boring and pointless. Moto gp and the other hand was ****ing brilliant this year. I will be following it from now on even though I have no interest in bikes.
I hope @svensktoppen will continue with a 2 sentence summary of each bore fest sorry race :p.

The last thing F1 needs is making the cars even slower by opting for different tyre compounds lol. Even still, very few motorsport compounds are capable when cold, most road legal semi-slicks aren't the best when cold tbh.

The GP2 cars have a smoother power delivery too, those turbo engines make a massive difference.

Power Units homologated in previous seasons may now be re-homologated. Previously no manufacturer could supply more than one specification of PU. The World Motor Sport Council was also advised that the FIA had agreed for Ferrari to supply a fourth customer team with a 2015-specification Power Unit in 2016.

Red Bull will be powered by TAG Heuer badged Renault engines next season, the Milton Keynes-based team confirmed on Friday.
Speculation about the deal surfaced on Thursday when the team issued a teaser image on Twitter, suggesting that Swiss engineering would help the team progress in 2016.

Now, the team has confirmed that the watch company, which has been a McLarensponsor for 30 years, will take naming rights for the Red Bull Racing-TAG Heuer RB12.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner said: "TAG Heuer and Red Bull are two transcendent brands which have both a passion for racing and a drive to do things differently, and this unique collaboration is further evidence of that.

"TAG Heuer has been an icon in the world of Formula 1 for many years and we're delighted that they've chosen to continue their association with the sport by teaming up with us.

"Our shared values of innovation and a desire to stand out from the crowd make this one of the most exciting partnerships in F1.

"We are also pleased to see Renault confirm its long-term commitment to F1 and would like to thank them for their contribution to the team since 2007.

"Their technical partnership with Ilmor gives us confidence, and we look forward to the 2016 season."

The latter comment refers to the prospect of Renault linking up with engine guru Mario Illien to help drive forward development of the French car manufacturer's power unit from next year.

Slightly different from what they said during the season hahaha

Is this a new partnership? If so, it could be interesting. There has been talk before of RB bringing in "external consultants" to try and coax more out of the Renault unit, and also talk of more of a joint effort with Renault and RB going forward...

Ilmor have been with them since part way through this season when the relationship with Renault started breaking down.

Stolen from elsewhere:

Summer of 2016...

RBR: "YOUR ENGINE SUCKS! YOU SUCK AT MAKING ENGINES"

Tag Heuer: "No kidding, we're a watch company, what were you expecting"
