A lot tighter than expected, looking good for tomorrow. Overtaking will be the issue though like all street circuits, though this one does have those looooong straights for slip-streaming. We shall see.

Good one by Bottas, he didn't expect that!

boring "race".
same 2 teams yet again, but under current rules not much can be done. however the spools required by the drivers to go flat out round that track in & out of the shadows with walls on both sides is pretty impressive!

It is impressive driving the way they do on a track that tight.

Was some good action at the start, and then the late push by Lewis, but that was it.

Bottas did a great job.

Another great first half by Leclerk, then again he was kept out far too long. Ferrari really should have kept him ahead of Max, instead they made sure he finished well behind.

Ferrari really are in a mess at the moment.

They do have one thing going for them - they have a guaranteed share of the F1 commercial pot along with Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren.

Everyone else depend entirely on manufacturer's points for their share.

That makes the team significantly more valuable than the rest of the grid. They're not leaving any time soon.

Their problem is that it's impossible in modern F1 to be an independent team. It's just far too expensive to do it all yourself. Even just completing a car, never mind developing something above and beyond the top teams.

McL and Renault are struggling too for the same reasons.

And it's why everyone else is going down the customer car route, leading to the division one and two on the grid.

Williams have to either find a major manufacturer with deep pockets to partner with, or go down the customer car route.

They're not doing the latter, it wouldn't be Williams any more. And they can't find the former.

So here we are. It's sad, but modern F1 just doesn't work for independent teams.

Wow, stunning quali by Bottas there!

Lewis managed second despite more time off the track than on it in his fastest lap.

That says a lot about just how far ahead of the rest Mercedes are. Despite ferrari bringing more upgrades. It's a good thing Bottas has found this massive step to keep Lewis on his toes or else it would all be over already...

Great drives by Lando and Ricciardo as well, and Max right up there with the Ferraris.

The way Merc have been playing it so far, whoever makes it through turn one first will win the race.

The disappointing thing for Formula 1 is that Mercedes are even further ahead when it comes to race pace this weekend.

Plus they are monstering the final sector which bodes very well for them in come Monaco.

Five 1-2 finishes on the bounce for Mercedes. Their dominance is restored after a brief challenge from Ferrari.

(Another) Long season for ahead for the rest of the grid and fans alike.

Now I just watch the start and then check the bbc to see who won it.

Will always regret not going to watch a race when it had noise, like proper V8/10 noise.

The urge to go now just isn’t there. Shame

First through corner 1 won it, lol.

Great finish by Max even if he was helped by ferrari tripping over themselves again.

That was it at the front, lol.

Loads of action behind but nobody really cares I guess.

Shame for Lando, but if a rookie error though.
