Wasn’t the greatest race, the first few laps & the SC were exciting, a few squabbles mid-field but that was about it. I don’t believe that if Bottas was ahead after the first corner he would have been able to hold Lewis off. Hamilton was immense. Good race by the Haas boys & Toro Rosso. Dan Ric actually finished another race wow. Racing Point having a bad day too.

Verstappen had a great drive holding off the Ferraris, Gasly not even close. Kubica rumored to be on his way out in the next few races.

The big upgrade package from Ferrari was a major disappointment, a waste of an engine too they only have 1 engine left for the rest of the season. How many more team principles can they sack before they find their golden ticket? The whole team needs a good shake, pit crew, strategists, developers, principles, engineers… Kimi is the last Ferrari World Champion and race winner ffs. Monaco next and it doesn’t look good for their car either.

Mercedes are doing such a phenomenal job, can’t fault them or get mad at them for being the best, x5 1-2s in a row is incredible and they had a pitstop in hand before the SC came out yesterday. Everyone else needs a good swift kick in the stones.

👍

Was there over weekend and Bottas in qualifying was visibly aggressive with the car, riding kerbs and car looked right on edge to get that great lap. Race day though there was no stopping Lewis, so smooth and a different league on the day and he scythed through traffic like no one else.

What might look boring on TV was anything but live. The cars are absolutely frenetic on track and there's plenty of action going on through the field and the race seemed to fly in.

A few other observations from the weekend:
The ferrari is a quiet car, merc is raspy and the red bull sounds a bit of an animal from the bunch. The popping and banging F2 cars were louder and the Porsche Cup cars louder again and sound immense.

The accel and deccel behind safety car is butt clenchingly close with only a foot or two from rear ending and swerving to miss each other.

Sainz had obvious massive support being his home race but after that there was more visible support for Max than anyone else. Lewis after that.

The Williams are almost different series slow, they got left behind almost immediately by some margin. They are essentially just racing each other.

The big 3 unsurprisingly have the majority of support but still with a decent smattering of people supporting the smaller teams all accept Racing Point / Force India. Don't recall anyone actually wearing there stuff or giving visible support. Don't know if that's down to the livery or just hard to get behind a team with a fluctuating name.

All in all no matter how it comes across on TV the event is great live with always something happening out on track throughout each day. Circuit Catalunya is a great venue with easy access from Barcelona and with a mix of sun, layout, sounds from DJ and big crowds its very much a party atmosphere.

Zandvoort back for next year. Not sure how exciting it will be with the current cars but it's given some exciting races in the past so we'll see.

The McL/Alonso combo on form again, at Indianapolis this time 😇

Does look like a half hearted shambles from McL to be honest, surely they would know you can't just walk into a series as competitive as Indy and think you'll just automatically be at the front? Ex-f1 b-team running it too by the looks of it.

He should have stuck with Andretti.

Sad news about Lauda. One of the toughest and most resilient guys in the history of F1. Went from being read his last rites to getting back in the car after missing just 2 races. I haven’t seen him in the paddock in a while so I guess his health was fading. Big loss to F1 especially Mercedes.

He's been in and out of hospital with lung problems for the last few months at least.

Very sad.

He must have been ill for a while I can't even remember the last time I saw him in the paddock, about a year ago maybe? He was hardly seen in 2018. It'll be interesting to see how Mercedes keep focused this weekend after losing Niki. You can't lose concentration for a split second around Monaco.

Yea he had a lung transplant around the summer break last season (August) but it was problems with his kidneys which ultimately caused his death. He had two kidney transplants over the last 20 years.

I always thought it was a bank holiday type setup in Monaco on Friday?!

Glad they kept it free of running.

Well there's ferrari more or less written off by all accounts & it's only practise day!
f1 really is just a 1 team procession these days.
& fairly pointless viewing for that reason.
I'll watch Monaco & Spa & just wait for the results of the rest & only watch if Mercedes haven't won.
not in the same ball park as the classic eras of decades ago.
yaaaaaawn.
