Starting off with good news for Callum Ilott. It's a crying shame that he can't get a proper seat while the likes of wee Nikita can just walk in with daddy's cheque book...

They also have all the data from practice, quali & the race to get the car setup nailed. That helps. Plus he has more experience in an F1 car than x100 of all the others put together but we will see how he compares to Ocon next season.

Granted, Ocon had been in the car all year and Alonso’s been largely doing no racing, apart from Indy and training for Dakar, still impressive to me to jump in the car and set a comparative and slightly better lap time than one done in competition :grinning:

Ocon in Q2 would have been on the tyre he wanted to start the race on, and would have been driving accordingly as well. And no idea what engine settings Alonso used. Ocon would have had to use settings in quali to last the race. No one-lap party modes any more.

Not really comparable at all.

But sure, still impressive. I think he is expected to be as quick as Ric was.

Unless he throws all the toys out of the pram again and heads for the sun lounger instead 😅 :innocent:

Hardly a surprise that a modern car is quicker than a fifteen year old one :innocent:

Don't know how hard he was pushing either on the demo runs last weekend, but didn't seem to hold back there, lol.

IOn his 5 minutes wiht brundle it was said that they had the engine turned up full, plus he was on medium tyres there too.
