Jos couldn't bring himself to congratulate Perez on the win. He can't even fake being a good sportman.

Another boring one. I thought Max was going to win that despite starting so far back but Perez just done enough, glad to see him win and not have to bend over. Shame he didn't get fastest lap. Might have been a different result if Max didn't nurse the car because of the driveshaft issue. It's insane how fast the RBs are, pulled 25s with the engines turned down and a SC that bunched everyone back up.

Ferrari are dropping the ball again and it's painful to watch McLaren fight with a rookie American in a Williams for scraps.

How friendly is Jos? Helmut won't be getting his reach-around after that.

The FIA made a right horses ass of themselves again. As much as I don't like Alonso, that penalty wasn't deserved. Vettel done the same back in 2017 China and didn't get a penalty. I understand starting in front of the line but beside it surely just deserves a warning. Giving a penalty for that, then giving a 10s because the jack barely 'touched' the back of the car? And that was after they allowed him to celebrate on the podium, and then giving 3rd and the trophy to Russell and then going and taking it back? And what was that SC about? Stroll pulled completely off the track. They made the excuse 'the gps showed the car was still on the track'. They didn't look at the TV camera like everyone else in the world? And they know exactly where the car is down to the mm for the DRS to work. WTF is going on? The FIA are living in the twilight zone.

The other teams need to blow their budgets to catch up, it makes so much sense. If you break the rules and just get punished for next year then just keep breaking the rules and it'll never catch up or effect what you just achieved with an illegal car. Otherwise it's going to be impossible for anyone to touch RB. It's not a coincidence that the team that broke the budget is so far ahead.
Max could win the championship, take some time off and hand the car to Dan Ric and he could come 3rd in the WDC behind Perez easily. If I was Horner I'd do that just to make a statement but Max wouldn't want everyone to see how fast that car is in the hands of a reject.

Red Bull blew the budget but clearly they have spent the money well. Right from the beginning of the rule changes their cars never had porpoising issues and hit the ground running because they seem to have a full grasp of this set of rules. You could give half the other teams double the budget and they probably wouldn't do as good a job as RB have. They are going to walk it this year, and Max could easily rattle off 4-5 champs in a row. RB are so front in front they are probably working on next year's car again.

Wolff will be under big pressure considering they allowed the flawed design to continue into a second year, not sure who dropped the ball there

It's a bit of both to be honest. They've clearly done a good job. Newey was around when ground effect was last used, and he's played with it ever since. He clearly knows his way around that.

Toto acknowledged that just the other day.

And yes, Mercedes have clearly messed up.

RB were also the only team pulled up over the budgets. And had to spend six months "negotiating" to even come close.

Remember the first RB to the new rules came on the back of the most tightly contested championship in decades. There were budget caps already then.

RB somehow managed to develop their "old" car all through that season. Bendy wings and all.

And at the same time managed to produce the only fully developed car on the grid to a completely new set of rules.

Yes, Ferrari almost managed to match them at the start. But they didn't contest the season before. They put all the budget into the new car. And still didn't produce a car as fully developed as the RB.

Mercedes did fully contest the season before. And showed up with a half developed car. Within budget.

Make of that what you will.

They're either the greatest geniuses the sport has ever seen.

Or the greatest cheats ever.

Nobody knows for sure which it is.

Read a bit more about it the other day, and it makes a bit more sense now. Basically the engine will remain the current Honda unit, and developed by RB (no idea if the current Honda support will also continue).

Ford were looking for aero expertise for their road cars, and RB were looking for battery and electrical management tech as that will play an even bigger role in the new engine formula. So think of it as mutual consulting, and Ford sticking their logo on the car.

At least that seems to be the official version, lol. At the end of the day it's basically a Ford logo on a Honda engine 😅 🤫

Pretty down at Mercedes. In fairness, if they played the wrong cards they have nobody else to blame. From what's coming out from Lewis it's about more than just side pods too.

Or it could just be massive sand bagging and they're sitting on some giant trump card to play later 😇 One can dream, lol 😅

From the BBC link:
He said: "I don't know if people know, but we sit closer to the front wheels than all the other drivers. Our cockpit is too close to the front.

"When you're driving, you feel like you're sitting on the front wheels, which is one of the worst feelings to feel when you're driving a car.

"If you were driving your car at home and you pulled the wheels right underneath your legs, you would not be happy when you're approaching the roundabout.

"What that does is it really changes the attitude of the car and how you perceive its movement. And it makes it harder to predict compared to when you're further back and sitting more centred. It is just something I have really struggled with."

It sounds like he is very unhappy and may be looking for a way out but he could also be sand bagging...

Lewis really does have nowhere to go though. Ferrari "maybe" but that wouldnt suit personality wise Id imagine.

Aston Martin alongside his buddy, old pal Fernando! 😂

Unfortunately there is nowhere else for him to go.

Be interesting to see who Audi go for once they start shopping for drivers. With ex-McLaren man, Andreas Seidl in charge it’s not hard to imagine them chasing Norris.

their cars never had porpoising issues and hit the ground running

I cant help thinking that Newey has installed a method of stalling the ground-effects on the straights - Effectively an under-body DRS solution.
The 'No Porpoising' would certainly be a by-product of that. & as large percentage of the Aero effect of a modern F1 car happens underneath and within the body-skin itself, you would be mental to not exploit that one to the Max.

It does seem like that given their top speed combined with high downforce in corners. And we know they are not shy of "bending"/"exploiting" gaps in rules or enforcement. Something bending/moving under the car or in the body work would be right up their street and almost impossible to pick up on from the outside.

Final quali was just strange, no idea what was going on there.

Max will walk away tomorrow unless he flunks the start or something.

Good to see Merc up there but can't help thinking there was some fluke at play that just worked out for them. That said they've had better race pace than quali so far. So we'll see who gets off the line best.

Also will be interesting to see what Perez can do from the back.

Suspect it won't be a terribly interesting race once it's settled down after the first lap or two...

Hopefully Mercedes were sandbagging and they now have very fast cars and destroy Red Bull.
Mmm probably not 😂
