I know over here it's 4 years for first MOT from new and UK mainland is 3.

How does it work with a car(or bike in my case) originally registered on the mainland but here now?

Does it depend on where it was registered when new, or where its registered now?

It depends where the car is registered currently. If a UK mainland vehicle is brought across before it gets it's first MOT (before it turns 3 years old) - once registered in an address in NI it cannot be MOT'd until 4 years old.

Brilliant that's what I thought. Another year left yet then (y)

Volvo's!
It depends where the vehicle is registered at the time which then dictates which legislation it falls under, for example English vehicle 3 years and 2 months in NI doesn't require an MOT, an NI can registered in England at 3 years and 2 months is 2 months overdue an MOT.

Also an English car registered in England cannot be tested in NI before its 4th birthday
