Had this a wee while now and done a fair bit to it already, so thought best start a thread as a handy way of keeping track of how much money I've wasted on it 😂

Wanted one for ages, and finally bought it last September. It's just a bit of cheap fun really, 9bhp and reported 189mpg. Massive global following and a giggle a second to ride. Actually have more fun riding this on the roads round here than I do on the S1000RR 😂 I find when usually I'd be braking and coming down the gears I just hold this open flat out, tip in and hope for the best lol.

Going in for graphics very soon as want to make it a wee race rep so will post up photos when I get this done.

This is when I first got it, standard exhaust and suspension etc

Quickly changed the exhaust for a bit more noise, unreal difference and 0.4bhp is most welcome 🙊

Then as the standard suspension is made for wee far Eastern build type people and not fat Scottish lard asses I changed the rear suspension to cope with the extra demand. Loads of adjustablity and comfy!

Then it just got out of hand with brake lines, levers, carbon mud guards and other bits, new number plate, window in the cam chain cover, new grippy Michelin tyres, front brake disc and pads, windscreen, bar brace, reservoir cover, new reg etc etc. Be plenty more also, never ends with these wee bikes. May increase it to a 189cc from the 125cc for a bit more poke, but tops out at 70mph as is so more than enough.

That is brilliant. Looks like it would be great fun.

Great mod's so far and i'm looking forward to seeing it stickered up.

Cheers all, good to see some love for the wee Monkey on here 🐒

Love it, the carbon looks great. It must be getting serious if you have torque wrench out.

Haha, I’m paranoid about things coming loose so everything torqued up correctly and thread locked, which is more than what Honda do! These are built in Thailand so maybe not just as strict QC as the Japanese bikes lol.

That's cool man 👍. Looks a great wee thing to tinker around with to. I'm thinking of buying a little Vespa to restore & tinker with to keep me busy/outta trouble lol

Cheers. Yes something cheap and cheerful is great for tinkering on. Parts are so cheap it’s comical, and they’re so easy to work on. I’d imagine a Vespa would be much the same, though maybe you’ve got Vespa tax pushing prices up with them now?

Love it! A nice dark LED headlight would smarten that up

Good thinking actually, I’ll see how it looks with the stickers on it then maybe get fly eye stuff or a light tint for the light.

If you're going for the big bore kit don't expect much more in the way of top speed. I have the Takegawa 181 on my Monkey with a lot of supporting mods and it has really only made it torquey low down. Cam does help it rev a bit but the head chokes it higher up. Admittedly I did have it bouncing off the limiter in top at 82MPH for a few miles between Newcastle and Annalong once! Don't change the gearing unless you can live with the ABS light coming on nearly every ride. I dropped to a 14 tooth front and it did my nut in so back to 15 and no ABS warning since.

Thats good to know about the 181 kit! Does it give much more grunt for the likes of overtaking? 82mph speedo speed is good going, most I’ve had is 72 on the speedo which I think was 65 gps speed

I’ve had a 14t front sprocket on it since it was 5miles old and never had an issue with ABS light yet. However the new tyres may cause an issue with the reduced circumference. We’ll wait and see though, have read about the Speedo healers but not sure if they’re any good or not

These look great. If the engine/fuelling is the same as the MSX, expect a more realistic 90/100mpg though.

It's about £5 a fortnight for me when using my MSX to commute and that's with a Tyga full system.

It's the same engine yes, and I assume same fuelling though I've been getting consistent 130mpg while running it in. And that's with the full Yoshi system on it also.

Lol can't be bad to £5 a fortnight though, that's class for commuting on

Probably right with better MPG during the 'breaking in' stage. Mine got the death from day 1, if it went kaput, sure it was under warranty 😂😂

Mine it permanently flat out, might explain the lower MPG.
