Some good news the body shop managed to get the black plastic archs off the car it took time but they got it sorted. As we never welded up the two skins when we put the arch`s this needed to be done as it was annoying me that I hadnt done it so the guys managed to get all the sealer off and right back to bare metal. They then got stuck into welding the archs up and to be honest they have done an awesome job its real tidy and its also one step closer to paint how ever I did mention to the guy last night that my bumper has never really sat right on the car and it ran off one side so we put it on last night and noticed its sitting tight on the left but not on the right and we noticed the 1/4 panel on the left hand side must of got a slap at one point as its a little out of shape so todays work is putting that right. Once thats all been sorted it will be in primer and back to my house for a month or two before it goes back for paint and i want to let the primer sit on the bodywork for abit to allow for any sinkage around the repairs.

Slow and steady wins the race! Can wait to see this back on the road again. Still remember the first time I seen it at castlewellan all them years ago and fast Eddie explaining to me what it was lol

it’s going to be worth the wait that’s for sure!

Are you ditching the wide arches @Tufty ?

No as we only used sealer on the inner skin and outter skin it would of made a complete **** up of the paint job so i got both 1/4 panels welded and smoothed off so it looks and feels 100x times better plus it adds to the rigidness of the car.

The rear bumper also never sat right on the car from the day I bought it you can see on one of the pictures above that it runs off at an angle but further investigation into this it’s actually the left 1/4 panel that’s offline so they have also addressed that and it’s now fixed and looks better.

Not the best pics in the world but I will get some with the bumper back on.

Wee update on this... Yes it’s still not finished seems like it’s been going on way to long but I know some day it will eventually get finished. It’s due back from the body shop any time soon (once the wife cleans the garage out as it’s full of her stuff). It will be built and painted this year and hopefully on the road at some point. The only bit of progress I’ve made is getting the wheels done the same colour as the cage by Autoworx in Lurgan.

Yes im hoping so my RS6 should be sold with in the next few weeks so that will free up some cash to push on with the Golf. I dont have much else to get for it but im thinking of going down the road of new management and selling the Emerald.
On the road by the end of the year?

While covid has kinda haulted all progress on the car a good friend in England has decided he would help me out on my quest for carbon doors and got stuck into making them last week as he also got sick of being let down by other`s. Some pics to follow.

hello carbon brother! Keep me posted with your success on this and if you need any help, feel free to ping me a message. I’ve been on a quest to make my entire westfield body in carbon fibre so Ive learned a thing or two over the last 18 months down this rabbit hole that you’re entering lol.

good luck with the doors, I’ll be watching this with interest.

@slickcell my good pal has had an absolute mare with the doors lately so many hours gone into them but little progress made.

So I’ve found an other company in Germany who do full complete doors so I think I’m going to get a pair off them.

On that note adding to the race car theme that I’m already going for a good friend local to me is going to make this splitter as well in carbon.

There will be a carbon rear diffuser and wings to go along with the rest and all four arch extensions will be carbon as well. The only doubt in my head is what colour the car will be painted as ive a feeling orange might look out of place against the carbon.

Really deep black with the carbon bits would look unreal

I always wonder where my mk2 is after reading this!!

If painting I think the carbon with audi grey daytona I think? Looks great, RS6 over in England you've probably seen with the paint blended onto the carbon. Though it's would maybe be too subtle and lose the amount of carbon I the grey so to speak.
