Really enjoyed this , and great to see @stephen and @elmo at the forefront of the racing , really deserved their podium finishes , congrats to both of them , the mki escort was scarily fast but to finish first , first you must finish . The type r's are a credit to the guys , really deserved first and second in the last race when the escort slowed .

Thanks Arnold, we are just happy to be out competing so any podiums are a bonus especially in a big grid like Saturday. The Escort is a space framed race car as you know so he was in the GT class and not with the ITCC/Saloons, very quick car and is capable of sub 1 minute laps easily. It was good to catch up with you down there

What happened the RSR in the Second race? I didn't manage to get down but watched it Live from my Laptop.

Did they have him starting back of the grid in Race 1 aswell? or did he fluff the start?

How did you go in Saloons @StephenDc2 ?

Gerard started on pole in race one but spun on the exit of Colonial 2 on the first lap, he dropped to the back behind the safety car. There were a number of spins at colonial 2 as if there was something dropped from the Vees before them but not sure!

The RSR started at the front in the 2nd race too but retired before the end, His fastest lap in race 2 was a 61.7 so he must still be getting used to the car or had some issue

I managed to get 2nd in class in both races which was technically 3rd in the 1st race behind a very quick class-B car. We had a safety car for the 1st half of the race so with only around 6 laps of racing I didn’t manage to pass the car in front doing a good job defending

Really happy for the 1st round of the itcc with my team mate who has a similar setup to myself winning both races with a good lead in both. We built a new engine for the car over winter and it has really paid off because the handling was always impressive

There is a good write up and pictures on the ITCC FB page and there will be on board videos coming soon

There has been a lot of work off season to revamp the ITCC, a few of us have joined from the NI-Saloons so there is a grid of 29 cars for Saturday

A lot of impressive builds, from, M3’s, Hondas, VW’s, 500hp Focus RS, to a Mazda RX7 and 3-4 cars running sequential boxes this year

Some more info on the FB page

@StephenDc2 where can i read the regs for the saloons/GTs? wondering where a something like an mr2 would sit? obviously would be more akin performance wise to a saloon but by design they would maybe be closer to a proper sportscar like a lotus or the likes but without lightweight element.

If it’s a 2 seater Phil then it’s classed as a GT but you would be on the same grid competing with GT’s that should be under a minute per lap

The new ITCC class A is limited to 320bhp per tonne, no space framing or factory built race cars

I can get the full regs if you need them

id def be interested in eyeballing the regs yes, also even just to fully understand the class structure. the ITCC class A that you mention - would that allow or deny a 2 seater like a mx5/mr2 even if they complied with the hp/ton limit?

Hi Phil, 2 seats = GT :worried:

Even My TR7 all steel etc would have to run as a GT car rather than in saloons!

ITCC has similar regs I believe, There used to also be IrishGT class which covered the Ginettas, Elises & Exiges, it stopped a few years ago.

Would be great if they brought it back (y)

That's the first race Gerard, in the RSR, has ever done. I imagine lot of learning, as I'd guess it's only the cars fourth event too.

100% No lol

Quite a few Heavy Purchases made Lately for the Midget. :-#+o(

Definitely have a go at the Racing, I would have very little interest in Hanging around all day at a Sprint now!

So sorry if this has been covered, but how do you start competing in something like this?

I'd like to work my way up to some level of competitive racing in the future, do you need a race license etc?

Apply to MSA for a Race Kit, do your ARDS test at kirkistown, apply for Race license and get stuck in (y)

Buying the likes of a NI7's kitcar is probably the most cost effective way of getting going and being competitive.

get stuck in.............. you only live once....... and i guarantee the feeling/nerves/adrenaline when you are sat on a grid waiting for the lights to go out will make track days... and pretty much anything else in life seem rather dull.... just a fab feeling, even better if you get the holeshot and lead the pack through T2 !!! go go go
