Seen this a few weeks back on prime but it’s
just been released on YouTube

I think this could be the final ever instalment as we know it
There have been some crackers over the years I guess

I don't disagree in the slightest however, I am genuinely intrigued as to what you believe would be better ???

You know what. If it’s the last one for KB. He’s going out on top. There is no doubt that’s amazing machinery he has there and access to great locations to plaster in rubber.

Haven't got round to watching it yet, will stick it on later. Always look forward to these!

Recently heard from a guy who went to Goodwood that Ken was a bit arrogant and standoffish and he didn't really try to connect with the crowd much. Mad Mike and a few other drifters got into it and made the effort, but apparently Ken has no time for people. I have actually heard that from a few folks now from different events over the years. I have to say I'm pretty gutted I was always a big fan. I guess they say never meet your heroes for a reason.

Could be a great guy and just having an off day, but that's the reports I've heard. Hell knows. Still gonna enjoy the video!

Ford getting their heads out of their rear ends and putting their money into real motorsport, not a multi-millionaire playing around.
He can drive alright but there is no point to it other than slow mo shots with ever more bizzare antics. You'd see more genuine action in an autotest any saturday during the season.

Have to admit there is some great precision driving in this video but I think the genre is played out now. The original Gymkhana was mind blowing at the time but it got old very quickly.

Fear not young Daniel, Ken is a nice guy. I’ve worked with him several times now and prob the best example of this was a few years ago in Barbados.
All the ‘talent’ so Hamilton etc where staying in a private resort which had been completely booked by the government to ensure privacy but Ken wouldn’t stay there. Instead he insisted on staying with his entire team and us in the Hilton resort and spent the week hanging out with all of us at the pool just shooting the breeze and with his family who were also there. I’ve also seen him on many occasions take time out to speak with fans.

He may just have been having a bad day like we all do but on the whole, he’s a nice guy.

This is exactly what I am particularly interested in tbh.
As most of you know I make my livelihood out of this stuff (at least I try too!) and the reality is there is only so much anyone can do in a car.

Gymkhana and these videos really came about as a ‘cool’ marketing exercise which grew legs very very quickly indeed.
The harsh reality is that Ford and others associated would reap much better financial rewards from Ken and his content than any rally or mainstream motorsports involvment and this was proven time and time again hence imo Ken was almost pressured into keeping them going.

It all boils down to us all being a very tiny minority of the overall population and as such we judge things very differently.
Autotesting is a great example. As a sport to watch it’s generally like watching paint dry unless you are directly involved with it. The Gymkhana concept took autotesting and decided to make it dramatic and exciting to watch and now every year for the last number of years holds their competition which has been a massive success.
Personally I believe that some of our best auto testers could wipe the floor with many of the entrants but because there would be no drama, tyre smoke and general mayhem it wouldn’t be as exciting !

Hoonigan pump out decent content regularly now. Some talented guys working there.

Gymkhana got a bit boring years ago for me, but some of the other stuff they do is great.

Understand the marketing impact but it's instant gratification/ hits versus solid brand loyalty. The sort of following that Ford has from the WRC of years gone by is still obvious in this video by the use of the cossie. (In the most smick way possible running on bare rims???) Competition that captures the imagination will breed fans but yeah I can see how this stuff is cheaper to do.
I would have to disagree that autotesting is boring to watch though. Some of the videos that have been following the ni championship rounds and the Wharton trophy in the last couple of years have been awesome.

Ah but you are a car guy hence why you think it’s so awesome.
I’m great friends with many of the autotesting community and as a car guy and driver I totally appreciate what is happening but the fact is to 99.9% of the population, it’s boring and very undramatic.
I’ve had the same conversation with quite a few of them too and they totally agree and amongst the old generation there is a concern that there isn’t much new blood coming into the sport as drifting etc has taken over.

It’s an interesting topic I feel.

By the way, I spent many years trying to come up with new and exciting ideas and I too cringed at the cossie segment lol
If you’ve not watched it I’d highly recommend watching the Gymkhana files on prime

Would this prime thing be something that you would spend tyre money on? :p:p

I've always been a huge fan tbh I only heard that recently and was quite surprised. It was only because 2 different people mentioned it unrelated I was quite shocked. I was hoping that wasn't the case! .. Never believe everything you hear. He gets a lot of bad press and negativity etc. But I've always been a fan. I still need to watch the program about the Gymkhana videos being made, it looks good!

Even if he is a d**k It's ok, becuase so am I but I still like him:joy:

On the RMS Blog: Ever since Ken Block hit our YouTube screens with Gymkhana 1 with his trademark all wheel smoke drive in a Subaru Impreza (with a modest 530bhp) we've had an annual dose of Ken Block tearing up tarmac throughout the world. His Gymkhana series has inspired spin offs and spoofs to the point that (Read the Full Article Here)

Ah it's a bit of light entertainment!

I loved the wee fiesta. He must be burning methanol in the Mustang as they were wearing masks.

Nothing groundbreaking, not sure thats possible after all the previous ones. I still enjoy it, can only imagine how much fun it would be to do (the driving minus the filming part)

I also really like the Fiesta

And yes, they do run the Mustang on methanol.

Just watched it on the 55inch with surround sound. Some job lol

Thought I seen Aaron Kauffman, then his name was in the credits so it confirmed it for me.

Had he something to do with building the Hoonigan truck?

No, it was built by Detroit Speed and not knocking Aaron at all but the level of build is probably above what he can do.

As an honest to God layman, what makes you say that?

Just looking into the build in depth, the thought, design, engineering, details, quality and execution are just all top level stuff, very impressive. There really isn't anywhere you can look that isn't awesome, and I am not taking about the style at all, only the build and engineering. I can't imagine how much this cost to build just on account of the thousands of man hours alone.

Not knocking Aaron at all, he's a clever guy and does good work, just not sure it is at the same level as this.

Watch the Gymkhana files guys, everything from the very first video 10 years ago to the truck is covered in great detail there.

As for Aaron, don’t know the guy so can’t comment but I assume you are not basing your opinion on a tv series Ian because that’ll be as close to real life as my pet dinosaur

Of course not. I’m basing it on non reality show based interviews and videos and listening to him talk about the setup in his new facility. You can tell from that that the guy knows his stuff. Of course the only real way to know if what he turns out is good quality is to speak to a non TV customer who has had extensive work carries out by Arclight.
