Mercedes have had motion detection in the keys now for the last 4 or so years.
Plus with Mercedes, at least since 2014, you had the option of double pressing the lock button on the key to disable the keyless function.
Simply pressing any button on the key enables the it again.

What is motion detection supposed to do against this? Most of those systems only "detect" motion as part of the proximity check. Which does nothing at all against these relay attacks.

The ability to turn off keyless entry from the fob sounds like a really good idea.

The key stops broadcasting a signal after being left stationary for a period. Starts again once it’s moved.

The motion detection on the Mercedes key disables the keyless signal, so relay attack will not work.
Just looked it up, it was introduced in summer 2018.
