In Japan, an itasha (痛車, literally "painful car") is a car decorated with images of fictional characters of anime, manga, or video games. I had wanted to see if I could find any while in Japan and was told to go to the Akihabara area on a Friday or Saturday night. Luckily my hotel in Tokyo was about 10 minutes walk away, and here are the ones I managed to spot.

Akihabara itself is very cool, full of giant Sega arcades, maid cafes and electronic shops and worth a visit.

It's not like they're doing it to sports cars or anything which would be deemed special, which I think makes it a pretty cool fad, I prefer that to the likes of the stance scene or rolling coal reekers!

But I doubt it would fit in locally

They love their wacky styling trends!

Any more images of this

No more of them, but have loads of other Japanese cars if you like. Mostly KEI cars but a few interesting 80's stuff as well.
Love the Kei car stuff! Anything to do with their car culture tbh!

If done right it can look good, but you're right it's more of an Akihabara thing now and seems to be dying out.. Must upload a few of my old albums (y)

I know this is a dead post. I just had my car wrapped in Australia not long ago and want to share.

Nice wrap you have there. That reminds me I promised to post the rest of my Japan trip photos and never got around to it, will have a sort out over the weekend.

This is probably the favourite photo I took, looks like a Gran Turismo screenshot.

Can I just say how much I love hachiroku l. Ae86 tureno is my absolute all time top car. Others want Lamborghini or Ferrari. I want hachiroku. Absolute gorgeous looking cars plus they are rear wheel drive with the down right beast of an engine, the 4age, that can take hell and keep on going. Probably best engine Toyota ever made.
