i've yet to try a modern auto box paired with a decent powered petrol, until then i'll reserve judgement, i'd had a couple of slush boxes in past petrol motors and they really took the fun out of pressing on and making swift progress when the rare opportunity allowed. Was a breath of fresh air getting back into something with manual box for some involved driving.

Things have definitely come a long way since dsg was brought out 16/17 years ago? Before that it was mostly old slush boxes than turned lots of petrol into noise and moderate acceleration. OK in an old XJ6 but awful in anything remotely sporty.

Good fun when you go to overtake a tractor and you have to wait until it decides to accelerate!
