Mazda tappets

Hi there,

Does the mark on this tappet suggest that it could be sticking?

3 of the tappets have these kind of marks on them

Engine is making an awful racket from the top end.

MX-5? Chances are they are sticking. Mine rattle after the car has been lying for a while. Sometimes it goes away quickly other times it needs new oil and an Italian tune up.

Should be able to clean them up and stick them back in? Don't think there's much to them.

Mazda 6 1.8 petrol, it sounds really really terrible.

I have ticking tappets before but this so loud it sounds like something is seriously wrong.

It's my mate's car

Stick a litre of atf in the engine oil and drive it for a few weeks will soon clean out the lifters, then do an oil change

Just to add, they are solid not hydraulic.
