Mechanic WTD: R32 Timing Chain

Hi folks,

A good friend of mine has a MK4 R32 and is looking for a good specialist to replace his timing chain. He has the kit but is struggling to find anyone who can (or wants to) take on the job. Does anyone on here know anyone and/or can do this?

Closer to Bangor the better of possible.

Surely Belfast Service Centre could do that? They’re a VAG specialist on Prince Regent Road, just off the top of the Castlereagh Road beside the Knock carriageway…

Engine out job which is why most dont want to touch it be worth trying terry mcevoy out by Carryduff.

Thankfully never had to do one in the dealer but aye, the gearbox has to come out which involves the subframe out and when you’re down that far may as well unclip hoses and engine ECU plug and drop it all on the floor for all the extra it will take.

Thanks for some of the suggestions folks, I’ll pass them on. Understandably a big job and would take up a fair chunk of ramp time but he’s willing to pay to get it done right.

has he checked vagcom for the chain timing deviation to determine that it needs done, or is he just doing it more as a preventive measure, remove that constant niggle in the back of his head!

Yes it’s been hooked up and confirmed that it’s out of tolerance I’m afraid @Gambit . Enough to throw the engine management light.

same place he had it welded could do it..... or did they not want to take it on?

Had to check with him.. don’t think so. He’s phoned 6 or 7 places and is either getting the “don’t have the tools” or “we don’t have the staff”

Struggled getting someone to do a timing belt on a TT in Belfast never mind a V6 chain.

having had a look there at other peoples quotes across internet range from anything between 12-16hrs labour for it.

VW time on our system is showing 11 odd hours for the job. Never done one so can’t comment.

Don’t laugh but I found agnews as cheap for A DSG / timing belt change than a recommended indy using genuine parts in derry. Don’t suppose vw do fixed price servicing for these? Long shot b
