Metal fuel tank repair

So my dads E38 7 series is suffering from the dreaded fuel tank corrosion. Euro car parts and various other places no longer list a new tank and a BMW tank is £1400. A second can one can be got for £300 or so but considering these cars are over 20 years old now getting a good one might prove difficult so I'm wondering has anyone ever had a metal tank repaired and where? Dads keeping the car so any repairs will need to be done to last.
