it’s really not that scary, but it’s amazing fun, mods underway at the moment to resolve some issues & plan to get it out again in the next few weeks..

I was spending a few hours over the weekend working on the paddle shift system, mocking up some mounts for the Pneumatic Cylinders and Mounting the paddles onto the wheel.

They are so crisp and direct, should really rectify the stick ‘feel’ issue I’m having with the elite box..

I’m Trying to now decide whether to go with the control system which just controls the Paddles or Upgrade to full Data logging, Launch Control & Traction Control, but I’ve never really been one for driving aids!^o)

Get a yarn with O'Connell, I'm certain he uses the launch etc and his times are always impressive, not matter what car.

Good enough for F1, good enough for you (y)

Just depends though. Agree with you that for "purity" and enjoyment nothing beats knowing it's yourself doing the job and not some pimpled teenager who wrote the code running in the computer.

But if it's for racing and winning, and the series allows those aids, then just go for it.

Well that's my thoughts, on this side of the water standing starts are the norm..

The series I would want to run with in England the does not allow the driving aids, but they all run rolling starts to put less strain on the older cars transmissions.

It should be as simple as bolting the gear stick in and pulling the fuse or clipping out the GCU out to run in those races..

I've always wondered how they enforce rules like that, especially if you can have the whole system actually there and just pull a fuse at scrutineering and go "honest, I won't put it back in again as soon as you turn around" 😁 Never mind the stuff you can do with modern ECUs and GPS and whatnot and nobody would ever know.

Actually, that's what Ferrari did last year in F1 and they got away with it 😅

I managed to get the car out for another blast on Saturday to test the new swirl pot arrangement and a few other suspension tweaks I had made..

721C4CF8-EE1C-4E25-9989-2117CE1A1E5C.jpeg

The car was handling great, conditions where superb but I was still struggling a lot with the downshifts on the Box still and I believed they where getting worse.. so after about 10laps I did abit of a strip down To check over the shift linkage..

I found that the linkage on the downshifts had be fouling the gearbox output flange.. so removed a washer built it back up again.. what a difference! Sorted!!

Got the car out again.. did another 5laps and straight into low 59’s on every lap.. to Just get into the 59’s was the aim!

But on the 6th lap I seized the Diff, so gearbox and Diff are going to be rebuilt this week! home with a broken car but happy with the pace..

Now Aiming for Races at Donnington at the end of September & Mallory Park at the start of November.. excited!

Lucky that linkage didn't wreck anything!

It isn't hanging about alright..

I was at a track day last year with a friend and there was a Black R8 V10 being properly manhandled around, it was being driven well so I loosely timed it, ~69secs..

What kind of times could you extract from the Lotus?

Good to know the pace is in the car and once you get the bugs ironed out, it'll just be about the racing. (y)

Unreal.

Though, cue all the armchair experts piping in that their mk5 gti manual or whatever is a more engaging drive, as they have a gearstick lol 🙈😂

Anything below 1:10 at Kirkistown is proper in anything. The Hondus with me behind the wheel and track tyres would be around 1:10. A race driver with a race prepped one and slick tyres would be in the 60-65s range. Pat had his supercharged one round in well under 60s, think it was a lap record at the time. Just stupid fast.
