I was only joking but what a lineup! I know my father has been looking for a MK1 TT the past while as abit of a weekender, if you have anymore photos of the 1.8t I could show him see if he's interested? Not entirely sure how it will work with it being an ROI car with the current MOT shambles...
Ad now on the classifieds buddy.

It has been a busy week for me with the car, it's hopefully in along with @HILL9N3GTI 's Polo for mapping w/c 20th July, so been getting the car ready for then!
I noticed that injector 4 was seeping quite badly, so ordered some AKS billet cups along with new genuine seals
1594238638859.png

They aren't in yet so hopefully i'll get them in this weekend some stage..
I've had a weird rattle at the back of the car, that comes and goes and I can hear it faintly when the rear brakes bind, so I bought new rear caliper bolts and shims
1594238788311.png
1594238860625.png
1594238886630.png

The discs and a few other bits got cleaned up along with a lick of paint also. The rattling seems to be away now but i'll monitor it for the next while.

So I was on Ebay looking for 1.8t bits when I came across something cheap..
1594239005272.png
1594239035677.png

It was a full FMIC, basically new but £100 less than what they go for due to some paint chipping as pictured, so I couldn't turn down a full FMIC for just over £100!
I always disliked these ones as they were a nightmare to fit and you could never get them sitting inside the bumper unless you have an anni splitter/R32 bumper, both of which routes I didn't want to go down..

It was a nightmare fitting to be honest, and it's still not sitting the way I want it, I sprayed up the pipes that will be exposed in the bumper, and tidied up other bits like the crash bar, bracket and slam panel

1594239898922.png

Some pics before/during/after cleaning and painting, and just making sure everything fits ok.
The horns also had to be moved, thankfully I was able to use the original bracket and just flip them. I had to move the ambient temperature sensor also.

I haven't unfortunately got any pictures of the finished product, as I'm not too happy as to how it sits yet and need to get my grills sorted! Also under the bonnet is abit of a mess due to the new position of the charge pipe, so i've got new hoses and pipes coming in the post to tidy all that up, I will hopefully have a few pictures of the finished product this weekend . Thanks to @martymim for being a helping hand when I needed it and helping me retain my sanity while doing the work!

I've been driving the car the last few days off boost, as it's now 'stage 2' on a standard map, I gave it 1 or 2 pulls and it seems to have lost abit down low/up high in the rev range but it seems torquey-er(?) mid range, excited to get a tune now and see what numbers i'll get, also interesting to see what my IATs are now. I've booked this Friday off work to tackle the turbo so hopefully all goes to plan! Thanks to @pobmk4 for supplying me with genuine gaskets/bolts, and until I get tuned i'll just drive about with the N75 unplugged.
Also going to look about storage next week hopefully, so if all goes to plan i'll be looking about a daily in the next few weeks and get the car put away.

Thanks for looking, hope everyone has a nice bank holiday

im not a fan of the pipes poking out the front but for some reason it suits the green with the black pipes.

it makes the little car so much more aggressive an gives it such a serious road presence.
i hope you dont put any of the grills back in

Back at work now and other things going on but haven't got to update or be on this much recently, but loads has been done to the car;

First of all I sent the turbo off to get refurbed, although I think I would have got away just fine with the turbo Sam gave me. A friend of a friend does turbo refurbishment so I was given a good deal that would give me better peace of mind in the long run.
1597004734275.png

Came out really nice and was good to go!
After replacing injector seals last year I think? They were seeping again, so I bit the bullet and bought AKS billet injector cups

1597004984895.png
1597005237315.png

I scoured and tortured my local motor factor and tool shops to find a 20mm hex to remove them, but it actually didn't matter as VW glue these in, so a screwdriver was more in order, then tar remover to remove the excess glue.

Not sure if it was worth it as I could have bought 3x sets of genuine plastic ones for the same price but future proofing I guess!
My whole vacuum/pcv system was badly clumped up with the new charge pipe, so I bought lengths of heater/silicon hose to try and rectify and tidy things up, helped a tad but realistically I need to relocate the diverter valve/N75 port on the charge pipe as they are very badly placed. I would be looking to get the pipe bent/re-welded/a new one made up anyway, as the fitment of the ebay special one isn't great, as it's sitting on the turbo outlet at a bad angle, and also resting on a coolant pipe.

Hopefully next post I'll move onto installing the turbo.

I briefly mentioned about getting storage for the car, after chatting on the phone to Flux for an hour they are able to quote me on a daily car, and take the GTI out the odd weekend for a decent enough price. The storage aspect has proved more difficult, one place local is looking 25 a week (which isn't unreasonable, I just don't want to spend 1.3k a year storing a car which isn't worth much more than that) and there's no more room at the shed at my parents house. There's the option of trying a local farmer/landowner which the price would be more reasonable, but then the car wouldn't be as secure I suppose. Insurance renewal is in 10 days so unfortunately looks like i'll be driving the golf another year! If anyone wants to house a GTI around Tyrone give me a shout :joy:

Thanks for looking, have a great week

So onto the turbo then...

I did it on a garage floor and enlisted the help of my bravest friend, we ran into a few "issues"
1597257301524.png
1597257361170.png

My intention was to keep the turbo manifold on, and drop the turbo out the bottom, so the car went up on axle stands, and the oil dropped.
Charge pipe was taken off and the TIP disconnected, downpipe was also disconnected, all seemed good so far.
We then ran into our first issue, the oil and water feed into the top of the turbo couldn't be reached, this is due to me having a larger cast turbo manifold, but after trying it from the top, bottom and sides ^o) , we managed to get them disconnected, and after taking the turbo bracket off, the turbo was free... sort of
The turbo was now resting proudly on the driver side drive shaft, and after turning the wheels, and going as far as taking the shaft out of the hub, we just couldn't get the room to get the turbo out the bottom of the car, so the driveshaft had to come out 8-(. Also left a small note over the ignition, just in case we forgot oil lol.
1597257806510.png
1597257827148.png
1597257842335.png
1597257893012.png

With the driveshaft out, the turbo was finally free. After putting them side by side we noticed the centre housing was rotated - and had been bolted up in the wrong orientation, therefore meaning the oil/water lines weren't lining up, so we unscrewed the housing and rotated it around where it should be, thankfully doing this doesn't disrupt the balance of the turbo, otherwise we would have been in bother!
1597258079364.png

After putting the turbo up roughly where it should have been, unfortunately it was near impossible to hold the crush washer in place, while also tightening down on the oil/water feed on top of the turbo, the manifold was just too bulky, so after trying every angle possible, and lying under the car covered in coolant and oil for an hour, we decided it would be easier to take the turbo manifold off, which was ok as I had a spare gasket, but it just added extra work onto an already lengthy process.

So with the turbo back up where it should be with all lines in, we re-bolted it to the turbo. I had bought new manifold->turbo bolts, and was about to bolt it up when the next issue arises, I forgot that since the bigger manifold was.. ..bigger, the bolts supplied by TPS weren't long enough, but thankfully a local machine shop had the right length of bolts we needed, although maybe a grade below in quality I wanted to use, they still sufficed.

1597258623613.png
1597258635998.png
1597258713364.png

So with the turbo on, downpipe on, all lines etc, re-connecting the battery, TIP, charge pipe, oil filled, all while crossing our fingers and toes..
It ran with no weird noises!

I let it idle for 5-10 minutes while it burnt off any oil/coolant residue, with a fire extinguisher handy incase things got out of hand:cool:. I put the charge pipe on and took it for an easy drive, after a puff of black and blue smoke, it looked all good, and made all the right turbo noises! Although you could hear all the boost being dumped through the N75.
With the mapping now booked and everything looking good to go, it was finally time...

Thanks for reading!

Took the car up to Autotune for the tune ^o)
Very helpful guys and Garry talked me through every step and process throughout the whole thing, after putting the map on and doing a power run, my post-cat lambda wasn't reading atall, meaning the car couldn't adapt the fuel trims, so it wasn't making the power/torque it should have been. (I did scan it before I left and it threw a code, but I originally thought this was due to the de-cat)

They were very helpful and rang around a few motor factors, thankfully a shop had one on site so Autotune went and picked it up for me, very accomodating through the whole day.
They put it up on their lift but after taking the old one out, the motor factors supplied me with the wrong sensor, plug and everything was different 8-(.
So they sent me on my way, and booked me to come back in a week later if I got a sensor sorted and fitted in time.
Despite this, the current map completely transformed the car, the power curve was very smooth and linear, a blast to drive  , although I had to take it somewhat handy as the car couldn't meter the air, and the last thing I wanted to do was run lean and throw a rod...

Went back to Autotune shortly after fitting a new lambda sensor, along with bkr7e copper plugs

1600891060999.png
1600891951236.png

With the new lambda in, BHP was unchanged and was getting 10% more torque than the last tune. I'm getting about 10% less BHP/torque than what others are getting with the same hardware, could be differences in fuel quality/dyno or even a small boost leak. I know the charge pipe on my ebay special intercooler wasn't the best fitting, so that's something I would begin to sort out.

My intentions this year were to purchase another car (preferably a MK4), and put this GTI away to keep for shows and what have you, but unfortunately due to circumstances + the fact I couldn't find affordable storage close to me, I decided to let the renewal run on and drive it another year🤷‍♂️, I may as well enjoy it after putting all this work into it!

1600892040106.png
1600892064810.png

Another thing on my to-do list was 312mm brakes, something that wasn't too far up my priority to do as I recently got new standard 288mm disc and pads, however my friend upgraded to LCR brembos on his car, so basically gave me his 312mms(y), and in turn I gave my 288mms to another friend with a MK3 GTI, hand me downs..
Honestly I cannot feel a difference on road compared to the standard brakes using the car for commuting, but they look nicer and fill the wheels slightly I guess!

Other than tying up and tidying up a few bits, the car is beginning to look 'finished' and the way I want it, I need to either get my Montreals refurbed and wrapped in new tyres, or if I can find another nice set of OEM 16 or 17inch wheels for winter wheels, + raise the car. I would also like to get the underbody sealed this year with Dinitrol but I'm sure whether to tackle myself or take it somewhere incase I make a balls of it...

Thanks for looking (y)

Got to the first Driven road run, was a class day and a lovely part of the country, was great catching up with ones and meeting familiar faces. I thought it was going to be like a Cannonball run around the mournes :joy:, some awesome cars at it also! Was great to get out of the house for a day and to socialise, being locked up for weeks with only the work computer isn't great for anyone, credits due to the guys at Reload and all who attended.

With Titanic Dubs also being announced, I couldn't miss it so tidied the car up. I'm not a man for having private or short plates, but when DVLA announced they were releasing a batch of NI format plates, I wanted to get myself an AZ Belfast plate as my first car had one so I grabbed one as it was around my birthday, treat yourself:innocent:

I fell out with a kerb a few weeks prior so got the wheel refurbished, I had also snapped the N75 bleed off the charge pipe, so tried my hand at using aluminum welding rods and it came out alright, I plan to get a new charge pipe made up at some stage.

Took the seats out and gave the interior a right clean, also somewhat pessimistic of me but I mounted up a fire extinguisher

Weather for Titanic Dubs was fantastic, great well organised day out. Numbers weren't as sustainable as previous years, but the selection of cars were superb

After long thought and consideration I think I'm going to sell this wee car.
The original goal was always a MK5 and one has came up so i've been prepping the MK4 for selling 8-(.
It's hard to know what to value it at, ones in England similar to my mod list and mileage are going for 2k~. I counted up the receipts and i've spent roughly 3k on parts and upgrades for the car over the past 2 years to get it as it is now, not including the 100+ hours of labour i've put into it. Few more things to do as I want the car right before I stick it up for sale so hopefully be ready to go next weekend!

I fitted a bosch pre cat sensor and fuel filter along with replacing the track rod ends.
1604775596985.png
1604775869702.png

I also replaced the gearbox mount as it was a bit worn and shifting was getting sloppy.
1604776005415.png
1604776126013.png

Waiting on a few bits to come in the post, top mounts and a few odds and ends to get the car right, also have my montreal's away to get refurbed and will get new tyres on them, big clean up and should be good to go!
If anyone's interested i'll be looking £1900 for it, also my genuine BBS CH will be for sale soon if anyone's interested!
Will be sad to see it go but a few months ago I got a run in a MK5 DSG and that re-ignited the lust for one, I knew this day was coming 8-(.

Thanks for looking, have a nice weekend ✌️

New rear spring top rubber mounts, new top mounts for the fronts and the suspension was raised 15mm and given a clean. Also got my Montreal's powder-coated and wrapped with Continental tyres.

1606682016188.png

Nearly ready to go! Just waiting on the new V5C after retaining my reg, hopefully should be here this week. Also new spark plugs coming aswell, it's probably a bad time to sell coming up to Christmas but we will see how it goes, I have an ad for this car on the classifieds.

Thanks for looking!

Hi all, hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

Just a quick update, despite the car is for sale I still have to drive it daily, I haven't done many miles on the car, working from home a lot lately and been out very little.
Just before Christmas one of my coil packs failed unfortunately (n), I struggled to find bolt down coil packs, the only new ones for sale were in Lithuania I think? So I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to get TFSI coils. @HILL9N3GTI had a spare set so I nabbed them, and bought adaptor plates to fit my rocker cover.

1611438343200.png

I took my charge pipe off to polish it up, and managed to break one of my mikalor clamps so I'll have to get another one of them, jubilee will do for now.
I decided while I was as far as the coils I'd swap out the spark plugs for new ones, I also changed the fuel filter and the pump.

1611438810205.png

Car is running very well now and I would love to get it dyno'd again as there's definitely a difference with all the fresh stuff! But I have another car 'lined up' so the sooner the MK4 is gone the better.

Thanks for looking

First time seeing this great detail in the work done! Cars a credit to you. Now you have me searching for 5 door GTIs for a daily... if I could get away with a 3 door I would be at your door
