Love the Anniversary's, nice to see one being looked after.

Mark 4 platform cars do the daily driver job so so well, if someone asked me to head to Cork now, I'd be getting into my Toledo over anything else at the house here.

Im still stuck on swapping an rx7 to paint a golf. Oh man.....id love a rx
Tbf the original discussion was for him to paint and finish the Audi shell, but as time went on I decided the golf needed some TLC so the plan changed. Back in circa 2012ish a non running rx7 was fetching about 2k at best.

The headlights were looking very tired,
IMG_20180212_174439.jpg

so in a bid to ensure they didn't let the new paint down the new paint I bought some replacement lenses of eBay. Meant I had to smash the original glass as the old oven baked option wasn't shifting the OEM glue!
IMG_20180214_235554.jpg

Much better
IMG_20180214_235603.jpg

Body shop flattened and polished the paint. I wasn't aware you could get 6000 grit paper, surely that's just A4 But the depth to the new paint was stunning!

Big push was on to get the interior all cleaned, and the finishing touches to the rest of it.

Fitted my US Spec rear lights and stripped out the interior
IMG_20180319_232454.jpg

Took the recaros apart and made the gamble to throw the covers into the washing machine
IMG_20180321_222254.jpg

They came out a treat! :grinning:

Between the dust of being in a bodyshop for 4 months, and the 16 years of dirt anyway, there was plenty to remove!

It was sourced from TPS. Part number is 1j0807653gru

Rear bumper was supposed to be the japanese version, but the part numbers for the rears are all up the left and i ended up with the us one. Means its a little more J-Lo due to us crash regulations, but at least its got the smaller recess.

Interior was coming up well,
IMG_20180323_184529.jpg

just a slow task stripping the seats, washing, drying and rebuilding. All while trying to keep the wife happy while her house looks like Baron's workshop :joy:
IMG_20180323_202740.jpg

Drivers seat was definetely the one in need of most tlc
IMG_20180324_082622.jpg

IMG_20180401_224251.jpg

Got my good lady wife to stitch up the tear in the bolster while the cover was off
IMG_20180401_224558.jpg

While the seats were out i installed the Kufatec heated seat harness and factory switches.
IMG_20180324_113003.jpg
I had bought mk4 recaro heated seat pads, but upon taking my seats apart discovered that pads wouldnt fit the anni lemans seats. They are the same style as the S3 leather of the same era, but i'd need to take a S3 seat apart to see if it has a seperate pad. Cant find anything suggesting it does on the online parts catalogues. Googling would suggest the heated elements are stiiched into the leather, which would be no use to me. Ah well , at least the factory switches fill in the blanks on the dash and look smart lit up at night

Borrowed at wetvac from @ferrett
IMG_20180324_184936.jpg

:mask:

Fitted my brand new centre console and US handbrake console. Finally a means to hold coffee cups without spilling. the uk mk4 cupholders up above the radio are a balls for any form of liquid

IMG_20180324_175949.jpg

All generally contributing to making it a lovely place to be when stuck in traffic
IMG_20180409_090651.jpg

I cant get over how firm all the seats are considering the age and mileage of the car, although i did replace the base of the drivers seat, the rest are still like new! (y)

The frames of the seat were corroded and always annoyed me when i tilted the seats forward to let anyone in the back.
IMG_20180330_225953.jpg

So while the covers were getting cleaned i sanded the frames down and gave them a lick of hammerite to take the worst of the look off them.

Wheels were refubished as part of the bodywork deal, so got them a good clean and sealed
IMG_20180331_105655.jpg

IMG_20180331_110230.jpg

Fitted some new oem VW badges to replace the corroded bbs ones. These are as it would have left the factory. Centre nuts were painted in a graphite grey just for some contrast.

Do the Audi 80 next!

It would need a bit more work than this to get it dubshed ready lol
IMG_1998.JPG

He and I are building the Polo and the 80 together :joy:

@Cooper will need to start a new section of the forum, for historic projects :joy::joy::joy:

I'd love to see Audrey get put back together.

I can barely get the time to wash the golf these days, getting the free time to rebuild a shell would be impossible. Maybe when the kids leave home
