Great job Ryan!! The Anniversary still looks awesome after all this time. Is it a keeper now or what’s the plan?

Looks great with the rear lights and glad to see the badges on.

Only (minor) negative for me is the front plate.

As much as a new car with all the mod cons would be nice, there's something about older cars that's hard to shake! I've no plans to get rid of it, I'd never get decent money for it as any buyers of anniversary's want sub 100k miles to tuck them away in a garage somewhere and hope they'll rise in value

My missus says the front plate looks like buck teeth might look at getting a smaller motorbike plate on at some point

The best I can hope for with mine is that it won’t lose any more money! I’ve always a mk4 of some description about me, although they are reasonably modern, they are quite straightforward to work on.
My old one had a US strip with the regular size plate hung in the bumper grill on 90 degree brackets.

With the amount of fine machinery in the halls it was never in with a chance of winning anything, especially since they had done away with the mk4 category. But it was still nice having the old girl in a sho, and recieving some great compliments from people i talked to :grinning:

After that it was back to the real world!

I try to get this parking space outside the office on the ormeau road every day so i can see the car and theres less chance of someone clipping it as theyre awfully fond of down the side streets!

Wife was driving it for some reason, so i got some rolling shots

We had a great summer for keeping a freshly painted car clean! It was a joy to wash and dry, with the fireball beading nicely, just needing a spritz with quick detailer to keep the shine up
IMG_20180620_200444_Bokeh.jpg

Big fan of this drying towel btw
IMG_20180620_202718.jpg

Usually the car would get serviced every 10,000 miles, but with it being off the road for four months it hadnt put much mileage on. So it got a service in june
IMG_20180623_085726.jpg

Got a new south boost guage for my birthday with the offset pod holder

Baby Number two was en route, so the 5dr Mk5 gti wasnt going to cut it. So after much searching, and trying to avoid the need for an suv, i flew to London to lift the new family wagon. Had tried to work to a budget, but when i started looking at the b7 passat estates most of the ones over here were very poorly spec'd. So i hit the mastercard and pushed the budget to get this
IMG_20180721_123521.jpg

2011 Passat Bluemotion Tech Sport 170 99k, fsh. Heated leather, cruise, panoramic roof, park assist, front and rear parking sensors, full sat nav/dab/bluetooth. Averaged 58mpg on the way from london to cairnryan (y)

Plenty of room for the kids :joy:
IMG_20180722_095129.jpg

Its now taking over the golf for workhorse duties
IMG_20180812_120629.jpg

Time for another mot for the Anni
IMG_20180820_144606.jpg

Thought happy days, not much they can fail her for this time. then mr mot man goes and brings out the light meter...
IMG_20180820_145507.jpg

So the window tints that had been on since i got it, and been through 6 previous mots, were now illegal
Oh and the lack of Cat hadnt bothered any of the last 6 mots either, but this time it was an issue too ffs. Hate how MOT over here is the luck of the draw who you get, and what kind of mood theyre in dictates how a car gets on

Mate, who makes the vents in the bumper fog light spaces? And did the rub strip come cut for the side markers? I’ve a set here and don’t want to balls up a perfectly good strip!

Vents were on the car when i got it, so ive no idea where theyre from ^o)

Jap rub strip doesnt have the cut outs, i supplied the side markers, the bodyshop cut the strip. US rub strip has the cutouts, but obviously the rub strip is too big for the smaller uk bumpers. Switch happy uk will sell you the cut parts of the us strip with the markers, but then you need to get the uk strip cut and plastic welded :poop:

So in a bid to get through the mot, without having to get rid of the turbo back Miltek, i got andrew at streetracer in bangor to fit a 'cat' ;)
IMG_20180825_125524.jpg

I set about removing the window tints from the front windows, which involved removing the glass, peeling off the tint and scrubbing the glass with white spirit to remove 16 year old glue
While the doors were apart i took the opportunity to replace the door latch module.
This is a common fault on mk4s where the electronics inside break and the car doesnt know when the door is open. So you don't get interior lights when you open the door, no lights on warning chime or the courtesy light on the door card doesn't light up. More annoying than all that is when you unlock the car, open the drivers door and get in, if you havent put the key in the ignition within 30sec it locks itself again as it thinks nobody has opened a door. very frustrating if your inside

Do you like my driveway mechanics makeshift shelter? :joy:

IMG_20180826_201548.jpg

Finally!!!
IMG_20180829_211658.jpg

Fitted my boost gauge
IMG_20180902_202151.jpg

Ever since i had the incident at mallusk where i drove over the bopost pipe from the turbo to the intercooler, there had been a split on the FMIC. which has been getting progressively worse. I have sourced a second hand oem intercooler (the 150 ARL comes with a full size front mount from the factory) But i just havent had a chance to get the front end off and get it fitted. :sob: Which means its currently running like a pig and overboosting to counteract the leak
IMG_20180902_161114.jpg

Should only be a max of 31psi

And speaking of increased pressure, Arthur arrived on 18/09/18
IMG_20180918_121908.jpg

And the old girl clocked 180k in October 18
IMG_20181025_093209.jpg

So with having two under two in the house, there is now no time or money to get near the golf :sob:

That said, i did buy this in the black friday sales :monkey:
IMG-20181127-WA0008.jpg

Dab and android auto :yum God know when i'll get round to fitting it

So that brings us slap bang up to date. Since my son arrived ten weeks ago the car has been washed once +o(
IMG_20181130_132227.jpg

It hasnt seen any kind of wax or sealant since dubshed :scream:

In an ideal world i'd get @big_pete to work his magic and ceramic it, but theres just not the money for such luxuries while the wife is on maternity pay :sob:

I've a week off at xmas, so im going to get the replacement FMIC fitted and give it a bloody good detailing. Ive also an S3 strut brace and some poly top mounts to go on it that have been sitting for at least a year :joy: But we'll see how i get on between nappies/feeds

Mileage is only a number. It's a 16 year old car which means it's averaged less than 12k a year. So it's technically low mileage :joy::joy::joy:

It's a well put together car, the sound deadening helps, but there's very few squeaks and rattles, apart from the single mass flywheel :p

This is one of my favourite threads on here now (y) Tremendous. Always wanted an Anniversary but ended up with a 170 V5 with genuine Anniversary RCs instead.

Looked these up this morning as I’ve always had a soft spot for them. They hold serious coin for high milers!
