I have found that some, not all, MK5s require a computer diagnostics reset of the steering angle sensor after battery disconnection. If turning the wheel left and right full lock then driving for 50 yards hasn’t put the light out it’s going to require plugged on. The computer reset is basically as I described too strangely so don’t know why some need to see diagnostics plugged in and some don’t. Any snap on or equivalent machine will have the test plan.

What do you mean by power steering not working?
Ive never seen that, but have had the yellow esc light on after fitting cruise control years ago as the steering wheel was removed. Power steering worked, just esc light on as it needs the steering angle in conjunction with wheel speeds to function.

anyway link to reset steering adaption below

Forgot to add, had you any abs lights before you fitted the pulley?
if a wheel sensor is faulty it won’t calibrate itself.
if you scan all codes do you get anything else?

Yes abs sensor on LHR gone , been told this needs sorted before system will recalibrate.
