MOT Smoke Test

A m8 was telling me the other day that as from Jan 2005 all mot centres in NI will be testing the emissions of diesal cars, My car d-t's up for test this week and am wondering if i should put her back to standard on pump and turbo cause she's quite smokey on take off!!

Can anyone confirm or deny this claim??

I was under the impression they tested emissions already, there is a disclaimer stating that you must ensure your timing etc is in good order. As far as i know they are able to rev the balls out of the engine to check if smoke comes out - the last time i took a diesel through MOT was about a year ago and they didn't do the above, which i am glad as my not so mighty escort would have **** the bed!

They can test the emissions of petrol cars but not diesal, They do plan tho to bring out a smoke messuring device which i thought would be out already! If so im in trouble!
