Love the noise off these! Thank God you took the 4motion badge off lol

I was sitting parked up in it one day and just picked it off. I'm glad to say it wasn't stuck down properly!

Ok car, you'll get a service alright!

20190331_201158.jpg

First stage, under tray removal and given a good wash.

20190330_144546.jpg

Sump plus and oil filter removed.

20190330_144607.jpg

An OE filter being primed.

20190330_145213.jpg

Oil filter back in place with a new cap.

20190330_152413.jpg

VW Racing / Racing Line magnetic sump plug - for some added bling!

20190330_152424.jpg

This gives some idea of the wobbly V6!

20190330_175649.jpg

New spark plugs vs the old ones (from the ark).

20190330_183434.jpg

Not that it would stay, but the air filter was pretty clean.

20190331_151929.jpg

I couldn't just replace the air fliter and be done with it.

So the air box and associated pipes and scoops were removed for cleaning.

20190331_154213.jpg

Including the fuse box lid.

20190331_163313.jpg

Getting things ready to go back in.

20190331_163326.jpg

The bottom of the airbox and air feed is in.

20190331_164558.jpg

Good old faithful K&N panel filter.

20190331_170152.jpg

Everything back together, a little cleaner than before, though the engine bay really needs a more through detail.

20190331_173459.jpg

Service reset via OBDEleven.

20190331-201451.jpg

The car was then washed and left looking pretty!

20190331_193441.jpg

20190331_194609.jpg

Thats the car given a good service. So thats one big thing off the list.

The sump plug was massively overtightened, luckily no damage though.

The drain on the oil filter cap was also overtightened, luckily I had a new OE filter cap ready to go. The drain bolts on these commonly round out of the plastic cap breaks.

The air filter and oil filter were Mann items, so not quite cheap rubbish.

The spark plugs may well have been the originals based on their condition and double checking the history. I ended up taking the coils out with the cabling attached, that made the job a little easier (I used the cable tie trick).

I also expected to have to clean the throttle body and have the gasket ready to go. However it was absolutely spotless, so it wasn't touched.

The next jobs will either be the interior, more fluid changes or a few more random jobs... It depends on what time I have and the weather.

Love this!

Cheers Nick, she's turning into a wee gem of a car.

Not perfect by any means... But she's making big improvements with each job.

She seems to idle much smoother on Saturday, haven't gotten out for a good drive yet... That's the plan for tomorrow.

A small but essential update. Time to clean the spare wheel well and the air con system, with pollen filter.

Nothing major to report here... bar a little dirt. Don't worry about the corrosion on the spare wheel, it will get painted in due course.

20190406_165228.jpg

An interesting find!

20190406_170125.jpg

Let's hope there was nothing missed from the list!

20190406_170434.jpg

Nicely cleaned up, wiped down and hoovered.

20190406_180757.jpg

The parcel shelf and boot carpet being cleaned.

20190407_172509.jpg

All back together, hopefully never to see the light of day again lol!

20190407_175034.jpg

20190407_175238.jpg

Also time to clean the air con system out using an air con bomb and replacing the panel filter.

20190407_161858.jpg

20190407_170441.jpg

I also created a little video of the process if any one is interested. It could also be used as a guide for replacing the pollen filter in a Mk5 Golf.

How come 3 of the old plugs were rusted to hell and 3 ok? Were they older or is that something to do with the engine design and 3 being more exposed?

I agree with you Warren, I suspect its down to how exposed they are to condensation / water getting in. The cleaner plugs were sheltered by the inlet manifold.

Great decision changing those wheels. So so much better looking

Ta very much Gav. Very happy with the choice and they are a joy to clean.

I replaced the cabin filter again. I do this after running the AC cleaners and leaving the filter in for a week or two.

20190417_192012.jpg

However the AC didn't seem to be performing well. I checked it with my own pressure gauge and it was very low.

Time to take it to the experts, Greenaway Auto Electrics in Belfast. Great bunch of guys, that are straight to the point and vastly experienced.

The result was an AC leak.

The car was booked in for the next week and it was revealed to be the AC pressure switch, a common issue. I could have replaced it myself of course, but then I couldn't have gassed the AC myself, never mind diagnosed that's what the issue was.

I'd ordered a dog bone mount for the R32 and it was time to get it fitted.

Here is a quick video I made explaining what it does.

Then one of it being fitted.

One of the undertray screws was missing when I got the car. Naturally this was replaced.

20190422_145301.jpg

Some nice little improvements to get the car up to speed. The AC is now working as it should be. The car is now driving a little better after the dog bone mount insert too. Perceived throttle response and a smoother gear shift all adds to the experience. A great value mod.

Superb all rounders Nick. I went to look at quite a few and you are quite right, there aren't many that are maintained well or in good condition.

LOL sure a change is always a good thing.

One of my mates had one from pretty much new and he still raves about it.

He mentioned it was great fun in the snow...

The long May weekend was a busy one.

I'd the M3 to prep for sale so that was off the list.

My dad arrived to give me a hand taking a few things to the dump. I looked at his car querying it's ride height.

The front spring was snapped, leaving it with a ride height the stance guys would die for.

Audi Belfast were utterly unhelpful, not surprising, however I ultimately expected them to be simply incredibly expensive.

So my recommendation was to get a set of Sachs (OE) springs and get them fitted by an independent saving a fortune.

I was recommended Darrell Connor just outside of Ballyclare (VW Audi Repair Centre). He luckily was able to accommodate us as short notice and seems to have done a great job. I may well end up taking the R32 to him for some VW quirky / specific stuff.

20190501_124932.jpg

In between rain storms I was able to get the R32 washed and cleaned up.

However one major area of concern was a previous owner deciding to touch up the brake calipers with Hammerite. As you can see it's not nearly a match. That couldn't do, so the fronts were painted up. Note the rears will have new calipers fitted soon.

Very happy with how they came out.

Cheers Mark, that's only the start of the project too.

Yep I'm only down the road in Templepatrick.

The red is quite different for an R32, since blue is the colour to get...

The R32 as ever is lapping up her daily driving duties.

I had a decent run up to the North Coast a week or so ago for the North West 200 and to meet up with family... I thought these cars were hard on fuel!

20190518_194744.jpg

The next stage was to sort out the wiper arms. As the photos illustrate, the paint was faded and falling off.

Time to get the arms painted and replace the blades.

A GoPro that was playing up didn't help, but I made a little video of me painting the wiper arms, as I am now trying to do with most jobs. So feel free to like, share and subscribe :grinning:.
