We have just started into a very busy couple of months for NI Nav Rallying. We have a new "Challenge" for 2018 which will take in the Enniskillen Erne Safari Rally, the Dungannon Snowdrop Rally, and the Cookstown Souse Developments Rally. All 3 were great events last year so hopefully grouping them into a Challenge will help them grow even more. There will be trophies for each of the classes in the rallies, awarded at the prizegiving of the Cooktown event.

In preparation for the Challenge Dungannon MC will be running their very highly regarded rally school over 4 nights in February. This will teach crews that are new to the sport everything they need to know and will provide them with some of the essential equipment.

In February we also have the UAC Firecracker rally that was postponed from 2017. This will be a great introductory rally for new competitors and a brilliant way for crews intending to take part in the Challenge to shake the rust off their maps and roamers.

Hope to see you all out in the lanes in the coming months!

Reminder:
First Nav Rally of the year is the UAC Firecracker this Friday night run in the Ballynahinch/Dromore area.
Association of Northern Ireland Car Clubs

This will be a great rally, especially as an introduction to the sport for new competitors. I was involved in writing the route instruction and they are very straightforward. There is also a new Introductory class for crews that have never done a nav rally before, perfect for Targa competitors.

Nav rallying does not require any special equipment, most crews will be in standard road car, and you will be provided with a map to mark your route. All you need is a pencil and a head torch or similar to read the map in the car. Nav rallying is a great way to get involved in local grassroots motorsport and brilliant way to meet some like minded people. Entry fee is only £20 so there is no reason not to give it a try.

Congratulations to Paul Forsythe and Brian Hanna on winning Friday night's Firecracker rally, and well done to Gay McDonald and his team for running a great rally.

Everyone I spoke to had enjoyed their nights rallying. If you took part please spread the word and encourage your friends to come out Nav rallying too!

Just over a week to go now until the next Nav rally and first event in the 2018 Navigation Rally Challenge, the Enniskillen Motor Club Erne Safari Rally on Friday 2nd March.

The rally will start in Irvinestown and has an entry fee of only £20. There will be a full range of classes so it will suit crews of all abilities.

It was a well run event and great to get back out again for the first time in years! Was a tad rusty but nice to pick up the win :grinning:
It also goes to show that the car doesn't matter so much, we were out in a bog standard 1.0 Corsa using the standard trip meter in the car, brakes were the only issue all night.

It looks like the forecast snow may throw a spanner in the works for Friday nights Erne Safari but at this stage we will carry on as normal and see what happens. Please keep your entries coming in and we will keep our fingers crossed that the rally can go ahead as planned.

Phone call last night from Club Secretary to say that the Erne Safari has been postponed but not cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

As seems to be the case with most sporting fixtures around the country this weekend the Erne Safari rally has been cancelled. If you had planned to head that way tonight please do not travel.

Hopefully a new date can be found in the next few weeks and the rally will run.

I hadn't realised that I didn't have the info up here, but the next Nav rally is this Friday night, the 9th March, in Dungannon.

2018 Hobson Electronics Snowdrop

If you are interested in taking part please get in contact with the club today and let them know.

The rescheduled Erne Safari rally has been confirmed for Friday 23rd of March 2018.
All previous entries still stand and the club will also accept new entries.
Enniskillen Motor Club

Just one week after the Erne Safari we have the Cookstown Souse Developments nav rally on Friday 30th March 2018. This should be a great rally and will include some special tests to further entertain the crews.

Fantastic to see such a strong entry for the Erne Safari tonight. 25 crews is a great reward for the club after the extra effort that was required with having to reschedule due to the snow.
Good luck to everyone competing and thank you to all the marshals who are giving up their Friday night for this great grassroots motorsport.

Just to let you know that the regulations have been issued and entries are now available on Rallyscore for the first Night Navigation Event of the 2018 Autumn/Winter Season. This will be the Hobson Electronics Moonraker Rally organised and run by Dungannon Motor Club. Date for the event is Friday 20th of September. Have been informed that the event will consist of both navigation on open roads (timed to a minute) and a number of private lanes (similar to targa events) timed to an accuracy of a second. This is usually a well run event so hopefully they will get the numbers required to take part.

Unfortunately going to miss it this year as I'm away with work. Dungannon always put on a good event!
