LOL That would be the sensible thing to do as I know I'll only spend an absolute fortune on it

So, the two options are:

1. Find another F20, swap the Quaife over, then pray it doesn't blow up again
2. Find a good F28 6 speed

I decided on the F28, which involves:
- A diff spacer to add the preload to the Quaife
- New bearings
- New diff seals
- 2WD conversion plate
- Weld a different mount to the chassis
- New Clutch

Gearbox:

Split the gearbox and gave it a good clean inside:

Removed the Quaife from the old gearbox, swapped over the crown wheel, speedo drive ring, fitted the preload spacer and new bearings

At this point, I put the box back together, and have decided to just continue stripping the car now and get it ready for paint. It's going to AG Automotive in January.

I'll need to remove the engine, then refit with the F28 to weld in the mount.

You building it back as it is or making any changes apart from gearbox?

It’s got an aftermarket electric window kit fitted. So they aren’t actually missing, but the caps which covered the holes have went missing in the last 25yrs. I’m on the lookout for some non-holed cards.

So today I started the stripping for the rebuild.

My friend Jeff then helped trial fit the engine back in with the 6 speed box so we could weld in the appropriate mount.

successful day overall. So much work to do, but it will keep me busy over winter.
