Octane Booster , anyone use it ?

Have been using BP Ultimate on the impreza with no issues up until everyone said it's crap for Subarus so tried Maxol. Car hasn't been liking it at all, so have moved to Texaco and it seems to have cured it the instant i filled up. (Ran tank low of Maxol then ran £5 of Texaco , then filled to brim)

Considering i don't use the car often , it wouldn't be a big hassle to add Octane Booster when I'm filling up. However i have a few queries, some minor , some major. (Have done little/no research)

Shelf life - I only do 30 odd miles a week , will i get the use out of a bottle ok (think it's a year so if its spent a load of months on the shelf already and i only put a shot in now and again)
RON points - The SUL is 97 , car states 98 should be used. Without remapping (trying to resist for the time being) do these boosters add 1 RON , or will it raise it higher ? (as in 1 shot adds 2RON per tank) will running on 99 be just as bad as 97 on a 98 car ?
Adverse effects - do the boosters have anything in them that you dont want ? Does it have any detrimental effects with prolonged use ?
Lastly, is there any point or is it all just a myth ! I'm not looking power increase , just the correct RON . Alot of threads seem to be asking "will octane booster get me more power" and the real info gets lost.

Thanks for any real world experience.

Assuming it's a standard UK car, sold in the UK market, for UK fuel that any UK user might use.....I really wouldnt worry.

Never had any issues with BP etc myself. It's all well and good crying about supposedly better fuel....except that's all we get here so just live with it.

But there wont be any downsides to using octane booster, most claim a couple of points increase ( although every brand/type will be different and will come with instructions ) and pretty sure they've a very very long shelf life.

The fact the car has been here and used for quite some time already...must indicate it's safe already.

My problem is it's a 2.5 Hatch , and I'm paranoid as hell. So any wee noises or running anomalies has me panicking !

After filling with Maxol it was running like crap while navigating through town but fine once up the gears. As soon as i filled with Texaco it was fine so was def the petrol.

I used NF Octane booster in my mapped Subarus, seems to be the best on the market, Mix 40mm with 40 ltrs of super unleaded for a good 99 RON.

Although if your car is a standard UK car then it should be fine with any decent super UL, If you have concerns about it, get it checked out, MAF, Knock Sensor etc can all cause bad running.

5 x NF OCTANE BOOSTER NITROUS RACE FORMULA (6 RON HIGH PERFORMANCE) 5 x 300ml

Take it and get the fuelling checked if you are worried. Although as @stevieturbo says the car will be fine without booster.

Have someone lined up to look at it but just waiting till I've run a couple of tanks through first , which takes ages !
To get rid of the Maxol i drove to Portaferry and back with the A/C on full tilt. Didn't last long lol !

My VXR Astra seemed to run ok to me on BP SUL but a dyno run showed different. I was told to try Topaz SUL and I noticed a big difference. However it depends how long the fuel has been lying in the tanks at the filling station. If they don't have a high demand for SUL the fuel could lie in the tanks for ages and start to go off.

Me,I've just started using on my escort. Took it to England to get it mapped and it didn't make the power as he couldn't get enough ign in the map. put octane booster and meth in the water injection and it made a difference. So I've to run it now at every fill up. The ecu is on a switchable map to if I don't want to use it.

The BP SUL is probably the worst fuel I've ever used in my car tbh. Had it mapped on it and was ok for a few months but after that it always knocked a bit on high boost even with octane booster in it. The NF stuff leaves the plugs burnt orange and only last few k. Well in our track cars anyway. I'd avoid it if you can

The water meth is a great setup, I run it in my car with 95 petrol and its leaps and bounds better than BP 'ultimate'
Made over 40HP at the same boost levels than before with SUL

Trying not to get into BHP figures etc and for track use discussions lads , but suppose it's good to hear all users experiences. (y)

Just want to know if its worth using to bump up to the 98RON specified.

NF is used a lot, I think a bottle to a tank brings it up 6RON apparently. I used it with super but on my setup, it was useless frankly. And it killed my plugs.

You can try it and see what you think.

I was just showing the graph differences with std bp petrol and some "help"
Appreciate info from someone who actually uses it. Just when i Googled it most threads turn to BHP gain arguments rather than actual running benefits !

That's one of my queries, is 102RON any better than 97RON on a car that's meant to run on 98 ? Is too high RON just as bad as too low ? (totally standard, un-mapped)

used the search and found this thread so just looking anyone who has ran these octane boosters to make a recommendation

recently bought an astra vxr that has been remapped using 99 ron shell v power

i am currently running it on 97 ron and i understand the correct way off fixing this would be to get it remapped to 97 ron.

i plan on doing some more modifations soon so i don’t see the point in getting it mapped now when i will need to get it mapped soon anyway .

so is there any way off making up the 2 ron points with additive in the short term??

Same problem here, here's the advice I recieved.

Most off the shelf octane boosters only take the RON up a couple of points, so rather than taking 97 to 99, they take 97 to 97.2 RON.

My car will be going in soon to be mapped for 97, in the meantime I've been using Torco Accelerate mixed with 97. It's racing fuel rather than an octane booster and I only managed to get it as AI Autosport had some to hand.

You can buy it here - https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/checkout/onepage/success/?utm_nooverride=1

what ron of fuel are you using ?

and what mixture like 5 ltrs race fuel to a full tank ?

is the anyway off testing octane rating ?

I use 97 RON fuel and add this in.

On the back of the bottle it gives you measurements and an approximate RON rating.

Pretty simple to use and gives you piece of mind that the engine won't knock on boost.

Yep that’s where I get mine from, I’ve never been able to get it over here. Been using it in my jap import imprezas for the last 10+ years, fitted with turbo back exhausts and no remap, never had an issue.
