have a few pics of a job I did recently and thought id make a tutorial on how I paint wings which should last a long time.

I've done this process on my own Audi A4 b5 and it sat a couple of years on grass and still looks fresh
here's the we caddy I was working on:

if your wings are rusty no matter what anyone says they need removed to do a decent job so bit of stripping was done:

the culprit for rust on most vw golfs caddy's etc I remove them anytime I find them, the wings where then washed with a detergent to remove most dirt and any silicon as the owner was a detailer they where then detarred inside and out:

the outer rust was sanded with 120 grit on sander until feathered out smooth then finished with 240 grit for a smooth finish for primer:

inside edge was sorted using a grinder for worst areas and the harder to reach areas where done with wire wheel on drill:

it was all coated with a rust converter/remover incase anything was left in pitted areas:

they where then EPOXY primed which will prevent any future rust:

it was then sanded with 500 grit paper and taped for stone chip, I go around this edge as this is where rust starts and paint is thinest by making it thicker with stone chip it will be much more rust proof:

the wings where then painted and lacquered around edge and over stone chip unfortunately no pics, they where coated with wax to waterproof the edge :

it was finally reassembled ready for road again:

I give it three months and you will be seeing it again. The only way to get rid of rust is to cut it out.

Probably be as handy to start with new wings with no rust ?

on this I could have as the white I have is a good match but say on a golf that's metallic id rather save original wings if can so I can fade the colour out to match, if someone wants 2 new wings put on I normally have to paint the 2 front doors bumper bonnet and up both window posts to guarantee a good colour match unless I know my coloraturas will be a good match edge to edge
