That said, only a particularly naive observer would believe that, at the highest level, speed camera enforcement is designed to keep us safer and not generate revenue.

A mere cursory glance at the pattern of enforcement reveals otherwise. There is a tendency to target big, busy roads where it's easy to creep over the 30mph limit. Of course, these aren't the roads people are dying on week in, week out.
Well that may or may not be the case on the mainland, but I can tell you in NI the sites for safety camera enforcement are allocated by criteria based on the number of speed related fatalities on that section of road. The majority of the sites are on 50/60/70 mph roads.

I.e. PSNI have very little to do with their time (but quite like their comfortable salary and lifestyle) FACT.

Also another extension of supression against the people. Who is going to run NI when the funding runs out?

All the fixed site cameras here are on 30/40 limits ?

Antrim Road, Saintfield Road, Upp N'ards road, Springfield Road...and I think there may be one or two more now ?

The Bangor road is mostly 40/50 though

And the A1....it must have the biggest police presence of any area in the country. Seen two different cop cars with people stopped yesterday evending, and that was only between Banbridge and Hillsborough. Although that's less cops than I usually see there.

If someone built a donut shop on the road they'd make a fortune :p

The Criteria is supposed to be the same in England. Although its odd that new roads appear with speed cameras on them. With no history of accidents, not sure how they work the statistics to have a camera installed. Maybe the £££statistics£££ change from time to time.
