Hi guys,

Not sure where to start with this one!!! Not a planned purchase really... had been keeping my eye out for an early 3.4 996 in guards with aerokit for a few years.... to no avail. Almost bought a black one a few weeks ago, but wasn’t meant to be. And after that gave up on 996. And decided to look at gen 2 997 next yr.

I made the mistake of looking online last Sunday for my usual trawl of red 911s on piston heads when a sensibly priced gen 2 appeared 🙈

Quick note to one of our Porsche members/owners @KeithRobinson and unfortunately!! Lol, he couldnt find a reason not to buy... nor could I.

Deal done over phone yesterday with ashgood. And flew over this am. Just onto the cairnryan boat now.

First impressions... wow! Didn’t expect a simple C2 to be so good. Steering feel is simply phenomenal, torque is great (it’s only the 3.6) absolutely love it.

I promised not to do or buy nothing for it until next year.... but I had already spent before I got it away from the showroom... paddle wheel fitted, and glad I did ;-)

Like most, a 911 is a major box tick.... always wanted a guards red 911 since I could crawl!! Have to say - been worth the wait.

Dont want to do much ( for now anyway) might think of black wheels, black graphics on sides... and black front grills. Short term will renew the Porsche stickers on the wheels.

Very very happy boy tonight.

Fantastic! Great to see one in guards red! What put you off the black one in the end? 997 is twice the car of a 996

Cheers lads, @Lappintyre only early impressions so far, but they are very different indeed...

I loved the M3, enjoyed the chassis feel... dynamics for me felt really simple, on the limit you knew it would oversteer, but fairly progressive... and only if provoked... but was easy to play with the rear end. Steering feel was ‘ok’ not super connected. The noise was simply insane (good) and probably the reason I kept it so long.

The 997, instantly the weighted steering feel was vastly superior.... and the first roundabout I chucked it into it felt like a kart! Literally... the torque is superb, coming into the few twisties i’ve experienced so far it carves through with superb feel/feedback. The M3 was more about revving that glorious engine, the 997 feels more about the sheer driving, with gear/revs MUCH less relevant. also as soon as you sit in the 997 it feels right, cabin size, layout etc.

M3 was manual, and i’m a manual fanboy!!! But the PDK is just sublime... and glad I went for the paddle wheel, as otherwise manual mode would not be intuitive at all.

Very early days... but that’s initial impression/feel/comparison.

Really pleased it all worked out for you. It's a beautiful car, guards red really works on the 911, I've no idea why so few were ordered in red. Paddle wheel makes all the difference.

Sometimes it can take a spirited drive in the twisty roads for people to "get" the whole 911 thing - they are just incredible. Engineered out of the box to be a drivers car.

Health to enjoy!!

Gorgeous. I have a friend who works for an independent Porsche specialist in London and I often thought of asking him to look out for one on my behalf. Unfortunately its now not suitable for me but I suppose like lots of people the Porsche 911 is a car I have always lusted after. I particularly like the fact that you can use them as an everyday car
I'm sure you are going to thoroughly enjoy that motor.

Ooooops…...………………..I just accidentally bought a 911:joy:

I haven't had that accident yet!

I know.... you have a couple of beers on a sunday night........ fall on top of your laptop, and suddenly it presents you with a stunning 911 saying 'buy me' technology is terrible !!
