A bit of an update, been working on one of the final bits of the puzzle for the chassis, getting the tanks sorted.

Had the tanks drawn up in CAD from a while back and made a few mock ups, as good an amateur tig welder I am where fuels concered I left it with a company that works on tanks and pressure vessles to get them welded and tested, which took alot longer than expected but some things are worth waiting for, made in 316SS so no worries about rust or polishing. I borrowed one before they finished out the fillers and cleaned them up. Mainly to get my brackets sorted and confirm the final position.

With that done I set about some brackets and straps.

Drilling the holes, deciding the height and getting both sides even took way longer than I care to admit.

I then bent some 1.5mm into some straps with an eye one and and some M12 threaded bar in the other that tensions the strap.

With that all sorted I stripped them off and sent the tanks back to be finished out, should have them back soon and two other brackets made and get everything bolted on for the last time.

Pulled it out of the shed in the sun for a few snaps after all that.

The straps for the fuel tank look very close to the ground? The tanks are works of art. Getting closer to the finish. Well done.

Looking awesome.

Tanks look like they will be some job, rather large. Glad I'm not paying for them.

Thanks everyone,

likely drooping with no actual tanks in
Yea although I wanted them fairly low and wide for the look so they are about 8" when fully aired out.

Looking awesome.

Yea mainly looks they will hold 650L total but ill not be filling them lol, also added a crossover valve which will allow me to just run off the main tank.

Money doesn’t seem a problem for this project. 😳 some work gone into it. 👍

TBH I spent way more on the defender this ive used 2nd hand parts and mostly fabricated everything myself, id say theres twice the hours and half the money spent on this. The tanks I found old spun ends for water heaters that where going to scrap and designed and rolled the tanks myself just leaving the welding to the experts. Hekps keep cost down.

It really is starting to look the part now, think painting it would have taken away from it and the amount of bodywork and filler would probably have left it not perfect.

Got a hand from a mate last night and got them fitted, not the easiest thing to get onto the brackets but all sorted now.

Really happy with how they turned out, Still some final cleanup to do and some plumbing.

630L approx 3000mi range if it manages 25mpg Should keep me going a while.
