All the welding is done, got a little exciteded and just fully welded everything, I had only intended to stitch alot of it. Just to deceide weather to paint it or laquer it as is.
Pretty proud of how it turned out as an office worker/engineer. Ill let our own men on the floor critique it when I finally drive it in some day.

Just a shade under 200KG, 8ft wide not a bad fabrication project.

I'd paint that same as the chassis to blend in, rather than leave it bare/lacquered.

200kg 😳 That's like the entire engine in the Lotus, including a full tank of fuel as well, lol :innocent: Different numbers on trucks!

Hehe, Im estamating 3.5-4T unloaded leaving me 3.5 T ish of a payload. The saxos way easier worked on, I can remove the engine by hand.

Got the bumper blasted, painted and reassembled. I think my painting is getting better :confounded:

Some more wiring to do now to get it all going.

The bed material also arrived from aalco and I had to get it around into the shed down the side of the house. First load for the GMC, just a slight overhang.....

Now to try and decide where to taper it and at what angle is the next challenge.

Also wanted to check my breakover height and angle, which doesnt look too bad at all and the clearence of the bumper, seems like the CAD model was correct again. The saxo should be able to get onto the back without issue.

Cheers, for the support everyone,

might be the pics but the bed looks very close to the rear wheels?
Air is fully down in the pics getting everything to just clear at the lowest points was the plan to keep the bed as low as possible.

OMFG!

Love the whole "learning on the job" bit too, lol :innocent:
Well im a few days into it now and getting better should have an update at the weekend.

Are you building ramps for loading Maggie on the back?

Not building but im buying a nice set of 350mm wide by 10ft ramps that slide up the middle of the bed from my door in the bumper.. and she will take Maggie to the odd show next year I hope. :confounded:

Was fitting everything up and started welding the bed over the weekend. Praticed a fair bit on scrap and finally felt confident to give it a go.

Then stripped it off the truck to get better access to weld out the chimes. First job for the new lift. Its wild how light it is.

I got on really well and ive 90% of it all welded out, until I just couldnt get it to weld on some of the verticals, and my basic ac tig welder doesnt have adjustable frequency to tighten the arc, as well as an ovbious lack of experience lol, leading me to blow a hole in the chime oops :confounded:.

121326912_443916889904638_3730197802704294573_n.jpg

I decided its not worth making a further hash of the chime areas and I gave Louis a call, he welded the boost pipes on the 130. Hes going to come help me weld it, hopefully teach me a few tricks im missing on welding Ali.

Soon have it welded and polished out.

Cheers,
Ged

Nice work, especially as you are still learning some skills, unfortunately making mistakes is part of learning and we actually learn more from them than our successes. Although I think it was less of your error and more from your equipment?

Not bad for an "amateur" 😁

I tried welding once, a long time ago in a galaxy far away, lol. It didn't end well 😁😅

lol was the fire service called?

Bit of both id say, Louis came and his welder is a more expensive unit, the adjustabale AC frequency being the most noticable thing, but also lack of experience comes into it, Rome wasnt built in a day but id safely say now id take on a bit of ally welding here and there and keep on learning it.

What does it mean "chimes"?

I never heard this word beyond the windy musical ones.

Thats what my dad and anyone that I served my time working at trucks calls the rails that run down the sides of trailers and beds. Not sure if its technically a correct term.

Another week of evenings spent in the shed with friends and we have the bed welded out and my little mistakes fixed and got the bed back on.

All the CAD work and measuring paid off. Its a really nice fit between the bed and the bumper.

Just some wood to get now to get a floor into it. Thinking of going with keruing half lap 6" planks from John Adams in Banbridge.

The fit is as good as anything, that's amazing work (y)

Also see why you kept the pipes bare metal now. You were right and I was wrong, that's exactly how they should be 😁
