I may have hinted at it before but since I sold the defender ive been after a proper workhorse project that can really do some heavy lifting. I wanted something with a 7T GVW cool and could handle a cummins pushing some proper poke without imploding. Capable of moving vechiles without a trailer, and helping with general engineering work. Ive a certain intrest in american vechiles particularly 50s-60s which i wated to explore.

After buying it a while back its finally home and its time to get stuck in. 1953 GMC series one truck. 7.2T GVW 11.5T train weight 5 L six cylinder petrol 4 speed with 2 speed rear end.

Plans are to fully strip it replace the drivetrain and axles with something modern and fit a cummins with enough power to scare the ram. Custom bed and a million other things.

There are no frills at the minute no seatbelts heater or even electric start. all of which will need to be addressed.

Ive been hunting for a while and ive decided to move into the future with a Cummins 5.9 ISBE Commonrail engine which im heading to remove this week default rating is 250 HP at 2500rpm but with some electrical calibration and the correct turbo and supporting mods should see 500HP @3500RPM with a far quieter running than the old mechanical 6BT i had in the landrover.

Just the teaser, some proper wirk to do in the coming weeks and months

Awesome!

Are you going to keep the rat look?

All the engineering you are doing with the drivetrain, would converting to RHD be viable also?

I seen you mention something in the ram thread, didn't think it would be something like this. That is fantastic!

That's class, love old commercials and yank stuff is perfect because it is still around and reasonably available. Looking forward to updates. (y)

Cheers, everyone, Ill do my best to live upto the expectations.

Yes i know im not wise @bigpimp but sure you have to be at something.

Would you not consider a petrol engine? Crate v8, 2 big turbos and an aftermarket ecu

Yes for something as a toy, but If your trying to move 7T a commercial diesel is the only way foward, and will get 25MPG. and ill be able to make more usable power with it. Plus the availibity of engines and spares is very handy.

I dont know yet, i think the rat looks a bit done, I really want to get it painted a nice 2 tone 50s era. Not sure though.

RHD is definatly on the cards, the only thing holding me back is i really dont want to cut into the awesome dash, mechanically ill be changing the steering box for a PAS unit anyways so its not much different.

Got her into the shed last night and hacked off the bed nothing much done as we where busy making a 5" drainpipe exhaust for the ram lol

Im going to reuse the rear end, its far too cool not to but has been welded directly to the frame so ill have to get it torched off at the weekend

1953 and 2003 and just enough room for the 110 Landy in between.
