My Garage build so far

November 2013 bought the house

I always dreamed of having my own garage so when the wife decided she wanted to go part time into dog grooming I was more than happy for her to build. Nov 2015 started the build.

We had a baby girl so give me a few weeks while off on maternity leave to get the groomers back ready for business.

got the concrete down for the dog run and started to put the fence together yesterday, our driveway was destroyed with the digger driving over the top of it so concert had to be lifted.

@Cossers that scissor lift you have/scissor lifts in general, are the decent enough for the DIY'er? Looking to get something into mine once it's built.

Hi bud

They are good for what they are, you have great access to full rear, restricted middle section annulled front chassis of the car, full suspension access etc, the only area that is troublesome to get to is the sill areas just because of the ramp plates, height wise it’s decent, you have to sit on your butt or a very small box and pad to work but it’s been fine for me, honestly won’t be as good as a two post for getting at everything but for a hobbyist it’s grand :grinning:

Good trolly jack and if you heed to get at the sill areas your sorted! All in all I’m very happy, had it about 6 years without fault, ohh and it’s very unintrusive when down and a car parked over it :grinning:

Ps if you are at the building stage, sink it into the ground, so much better for clearance etc, low cars need a small ramp up to get the blocks under the lifting points

Looks like insulated panels too?
MASSIVE!

Yea I debated it for a while but extremely happy I paid the extra even just the white inner makes a massive difference in light.

Figured do it once do it right ive room to extend the shed out to 120ft if I ever need to but this is all I could afford after saving for 2 years. Insulated door is the next hit. :confounded:

Yeah its dear. But makes such a difference.
Fixing things to the panels is also massively easier.

Try countrywide doors if you haven't already. They source them from a place in donegal.
That's where I got my doors.

Look like the US Pro ones from amazon

Amazon product ASIN B00KI1J8BI
What do you think of them @gizmo98 any pics of them with stuff in them? Tempted by some for my garage.

Yep they are the USPro ones
Honestly I’m disappointed in them
Made from a light tin and the shelves are a bit crap
I’ve had to add a wooden batten to the wall at the back to fix them to to keep them square
They’ll do the job but was expecting a stronger cabinet

Still working away, main frame for the loft is now fully up and ive ordered the steel for framing it out for the flow forge floor. Also designed up a set of stairs to get me up there. hopefully get it fabricated this week.

Stairs.jpg

I got given this 3ph welder by a friend who doesn't have 3ph at home, stripped cleaned it added some new cables and tested it working perfectly so ive now for 350A of melting goodness if required.

Next on the list is to start and get some light and heavy shelving organised as well as some benches and cabinets.

Looking good

We built a staircase in work recently but used C channel for the stringers. 8mm plate might be a bit thin and you might struggle to get it in one piece.

We used thread plate for the steps which was laser cut and folded. We initially were going to bolt it on but just welded it in the end which saved drilling the channel

Just seeing your last pic @Ged in case you weren't aware

Cheers for the update yes we use the belt style ppe ventilators in work, but as this is just my own personal shed for working at my toys I will probably elect to just open the door lol hows the audi coming along?

Cheers Davey, stairs look good, We rarley do that round our place too heavy and expensive we will always profile then just split the profile and reweld together after and bolt in premade treads from redman fisher or similar supplier keeps the stairs legal with the new standards of having a different edge for "finding them" the 8mm seems light but the treads make up the bulk of the strength.

Lets just say ive designed and made a few castle in the sky style structures in my time and never had a problem with profiled and formed stringers. getting it all put together the way it is on the drawing tends to be more of a challenge :confounded: lol

Yeah ours are definitely heavy and probably overdone, tho we had the channel left over from a previous job.

They didn’t work out exactly to my model/drawings either ha
