For someone who supposedly insures performance cars, I've had nothing but let downs from you.
Wouldn't insure my integra type r, then wouldn't insure my mx5 turbo and then last week refused to insure the RS4.

What exactly is the criteria to be insured by yourselves as I've 15years of claim free driving? What exactly do you class as a performance car? Mk V Golf Gti?

Currently with Greenlight with my Mazda 3 and previously before with my Celica st202, tried to get a quote on a car that I'm interesting in purchasing but got told you can not cover myself in what seemed to be an instant without taking any of the details on the car. Could you get in contact with myself and take a look and see what you can do as other insurers are happy to cover and it with no issues would be a shame in leaving halfway through my policy.

Hi 3S-GE-FTW,

Sorry to hear that we couldn't help for the vehicle change.

There are certain models that we're unable to cover and others that require specific driving experience for us to be able to do so, with higher BHP rear wheel drive models or everyday non-performance models being some examples.

If you don't mind PM'ing me your details I'd be happy to take a look at this for you, I can review and respond to you via PM or within this thread depending upon your preference.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi 3S-GE-FTW,

Thanks for the PM and coming back to me so swiftly.

Having had a chance to check your record I can confirm that there were two reasons that we couldn't help with the 2009 year Subaru Impreza WRX, these are as follows:

1) The acceptance criteria for our preferentially rated products set by our Underwriters requires all drivers to be aged over 25 for this model
2) Our Underwriters also require you to have proven progressive experience of a performance model vehicle for the Impreza Wrx, which unfortunately your current Mazda 3 TS2 1.6 D does not qualify as.

In order to take the stepping stone approach required to get you there, we can look at covering a performance vehicle with up to 180bhp for you. Once you've a proven track record with that for a year, it'll open more doors for us product wise and will allow us to negotiate better terms with Underwriters for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Tony any of your policies able to cover a classic car and a classic 4x4 on same policy.

Can you stretch a freelander to a classic policy as it's 16 years old and land rover made them heritage vehicles earlier this year?

Just got a bonkers quote from. Autoline and won't be back to them again.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for posting (and for thinking of us).

We cover all kinds of cherished vehicles and can cover classic vehicles. We would be able to have a go at your classic car, but these would be mainly the classics regularly featured in the classic car press (classic mini's, MGB's, most Triumph's - Stag, Spitfire, Dolomite etc, E-Type Jaguars, early 80's hot hatches, Alfa's, Lancia's, Austin etc. along with vehicle's.

We've not got the Freelander listed as a classic model as yet, but if it's not your main everyday vehicle and it is covering a lower mileage, or has modifications of some kind we have other products that we can use.

Plus we're extremely pro-Northern Ireland, the place and the people.

If you don't mind PM'ing your contact details, I can organise for one of our technical new business team to call to run through this with you if that works for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Just fired off an application to these guys this morning to get a quote. Didnt expect much of a difference from what I'm paying now. Got a call back there form a nice chap (who woke me from my nice sleep  ) at greenlight and a quote of £140 cheaper and mods declared than what I'm paying at the moment . Can't fault that! I'll be back in touch when I'm home from piloting the truck!! (All is forgiven for weakening me up :grinning: )
Thanks Tony@Greenlight (y)

Does anyone know if Greenlight mirror NCB as I'll be having to do a run to dublin at least once a week now so getting a derv for doing that.

IF they dont, anyone know who would mirror it?

Hi Johnm,

There is some qualification criteria based upon your claims history, but in most cases we can mirror NCB under our specialist products.

If you have 5 minutes spare to call us (01277 650866) we'll be able to confirm that for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Hannakournikova,

Sorry for leapfrogging your post at the time, but just to confirm we have an agreement with Mountune that under most of our specialist products we will include cover for stage 1 upgrades without a charge.

We've been doing that for about 6 years now and it works well, so if you're heading along that route we can definitely help (y)

Kind regards

Tony

P.S. upgrading further beyond that is pretty reasonable too, but if you're heading north of 290bhp you'll need to consider an RS clutch as an upgrade. If you're really going for it and head to 320-330bhp+ you'll also need to consider forging your engine with the Original Focus ST models.

@Tony@Greenlight did i read somewhere that ford have agreement with greenlight that you dont increase premium for the montune on the st range?

I wish my insurance gave advice like this...

Haven't been with you since I had the Clio 182 a few years ago but maybe give you a shout again this year if you'll cover a standard 2015 Focus ST TDCI?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for thinking of us, but we're not going to be able to help this time around.

We have tried to write BMW business successfully throughout our trading history, but from E36 models onward we've consistently struggled to avoid heavy losses on the BMW models.

It's frustrating, as they're very well engineered cars. But we found the rear wheel drive factor of most of the models returned a poor claims experience during the winter period, they're expensive to repair with parts at premium prices and the BMW dealer labour rate being around £140/hour. We also encountered a heightened theft claim experience - particularly with the 1 series.

I do recognise that the XDrive system is likely to improve the winter claims experience, but with the value of these models being north of £30k and the backdrop of our Underwriters having had such a bad time with BMW models that we have had to pause covering them entirely.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tony,

I'm just checking if this is still the case as my insurance is due for renewal?

Thanks

Nick
