After nearly 7 years of driving company cars and paying company car tax on cars I realistically probably wouldn’t want to own I opted out of the scheme and decided it was time to get my own motor.

After @gingfto left his CLS500 with me when he was away with work a couple of runs in it to keep everything ticking over it made my mind up that I had to get a Merc even though I had semi convinced myself I was going to buy a Forester.

Ideally I would have liked a V8 this JDM V6 (272bhp) popped up and it ticked all the boxes. Had to be petrol, with 7G Tronic gearbox and have isofix which is actually quite rare from factory.

Everything is electric, the steering wheel adjustment, the parcel shelf, seats even the headrests and of course the memory function.

Despite buying it blind and having it transported over which I was fairly nervous about I couldn’t be happier with it and for a car that is the guts of 1900kg it actually goes really well. it’s nice having my own car again but a pain in the arse washing such a big car, especially since it’s black.

Not think you’d get potential unnecessary flack from the popo? A UK size plate would look odd with the import size plate on the back?

For a 15 year old car it really is, some scores here and there that you notice when you’re washing it but only because it’s black, they’re not even enough to catch your nail so hopefully a buff will take those away!

Probably, but it will look class

Would also be cool if you got a short reg and got a small plate made to fit instead

JDM brilliant

Looks a real clean one, really smart in black and way better than any of the modern Merc stuff

My dad has a 270 diesel but it was the cheapest of the cheap he could find and it takes all the abuse he throws at it great going car even though his is dog rough

Picked up a set of the wheels I wanted that had been freshly refurbed; 8J up front, 9J at the rear and looks so much better now, the wheels fill the arches much better and got them fitted and alignment done today at Ivan Kerr tyres in Carrickfergus.

Also fitted a more period correct chrome front grill to replace the more modern Merc grill that had been fitted but for me didn’t work with the style of the front with the hood ornament.
