I'm gettin on my flame suit here so fire away... But I'm gonna say that all those D-turbos and the agri spec scrap that we all slag off will... One day... Command silly money, when the misguided youth of today start to look back with rose tinted glasses. Couldn't for the life of me bring myself to buy any of it though, investment or not 8-(

The arse is well and truly torn out of the rest of the porsche market so its only going one way. When magnus walker starts talking up the ugly duckling and dealers of note are buying so cal beaters you brace yourself for crazyland price hikes.

I turned down a set of magnesium 914 2.0 alloys at a swapmeet at Monza way back in 98, 300 euro would have bought them and they were a nos set of 5. That 300 would be worth 3000+ now .
I dont mind the 914 but i wouldnt want one even when they were cheap. Its like anything the performance / rarity cars always drag the rest of the market along with them, im gonna love watching the comedy prices unfold with that model.

People were saying the same about 944s 4/5 years ago and wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now they're the best thing since sliced bread

They are the new mk5 golf.

To be fair 924 or the 944 never did much for me, i borrowed a mates 944S for a while and it was actually better than i imagined. If it had to be front engined i would have absolutely LOVED a 968 clubsport.

Another dead cert.

If i was looking to put the beetle out to pasture then i would buy another ep3 tomorrow, bone stock preferably pre facelift as it just looks better ( imo ) but any good unmessed with example will be a solid choice. Best/ most enjoyable car i ever had.

Most overrated car I ever had! To qualify that, Honda have built more engaging chassis and engines immediately previous. VW swooped in with the likes of the Mk5 Golf GTi and 'Type-R' was dead in the water. Still very popular though and great prices at the moment.

And that is why itll do well.

They sold them by the bucketload and now kids can buy a hack for £2000. The mk5 golf was a different car, refined but not entirely fast, the type r didnt even need to doff its cap to it more hold two fingers aloft, highly reminiscent of the 80s hot hatch competition and lets face it, it had been a few years since vw had built a gti that was even remotely tepid so the mk5 was playing catchup from the outset. Flat out in an ep3 round the lanes was a scream and thats the appeal much like all the current crop of 80's hatches. In a straight line it was quicker than my mates standard escort cosworth in 2002. Times have moved on, hot hatches are now in a different league. Purists will scream ek9 dc2 etc but their boat has sailed. Many ( like i ) would look at the ep3 with fondness and relish the way its no thrills banzai approach just got the job done. Without breaking.

Another shout lupo gti, i loved that rollerskate.

Well the thing is they did break. Timing chain problems and gearboxes for a start. And as for being a great car - not sure about that either, but that doesn't really matter.

It doesn't actually have to be a great car to increase in value as we've seen with many other marques.

I had mine from new so can only comment on my trouble free 60k+ miles at 8250rpm lol.

We're all different, iv'e never been one for refinement and toys, i love basic lightweight cars that involve and that you have to work to get the best out of, less is always more for me. The achiles heel for me on the ep3 was always the eps left the steering a bit dead, but i will always have a soft spot for them and gauranteed its a safe money car if bought right ( in my opinion )

You're exactly right @56oval EP3 prices have already started creeping so if you know of a nice Cosmic Premier car with sub 50k miles and full history then please ring me lol

Ive been watching them for this past year. Once good examples stabilse to values on par with the next gen model its time to pull the trigger before yet another boat sails off into the sunset and KGF have them in by the bucketload.

Have a MK5 GTI and an EP3 here now at the minute, I'd definitely pick the EP3 all day long.

Fiats mainly
This thought was partly in my mind when I bought the Panda 100HP last year. The car has a small but loyal cult following. There are only 1800 in the UK. Age and boy racers are bringing this number down nicely. It only cost me two weeks' pay. Parts and repair are reasonably cheap. At the very least I shouldn't lose much.

Although I mainly just liked it for what it is.

Think Magnus Walker will do/buy a 986 Boxster at some stage. And when he does they will appreciate quite well.

If I had £6k lying about it would a tough call between a 986 Boxster S or a 944 of some caliber.
