Only problem with getting an X5 or similar it’s very difficult to go back to something smaller, so you get a life sentence lol
Not a bad car to have a life sentence on.

Keep an eye out for the F16 center console knee pads (same as the X5M would have). It's a nice interior mod to do if you can pick them up at a decent price

@greyfloppyhat what sort of money can you usually find them for? I was looking on Bimmerpost but it seemed to be huge money through a forum member from memory . They would be ideal to replace my trim

Yea huge money new, £225 per side I believe. Probably because they come on the X5M, so a bit of M tax.
Better just to search for X6 center consoles and you usually find one with them on for the £100 mark

Just something to maybe pop in the saved searches on ebay

yeah was quoted nearly £600 from bmw this morning - good shout on the x6 didn’t realise it was the same. Really lifts the centre console with them fitted!

Yeah it’s the 30d. Coming from a 40d I thought I would notice a big difference but there isn’t much in it to be honest

New engine and the extra gears make them a lot sharper than the old ones of the same badge, or even the next badge up.
When the suspension and box are in sport it's shocking how well they hide their size.

What are your thoughts on it over the E70?

I didn’t expect it to feel as different to be honest, the layout etc seemed quite similar when I was browsing them but it feels years ahead of the e70 as a place to sit. Steering seems a lot lighter too. If it’s something you are considering it’s absolutely worth the upgrade.
It looks far fresher in the metal sitting outside than the e70 does, especially at the front

I found the F15 to be a lot softer and floatier than the E70 that I had. Yours probably won’t feel too floaty though with the big wheels and lowered suspension.

I haven’t found that with mine but I’d say the springs are the reason - feels a bit more planted than the last one

Did you have dynamic ride control in yours?

With suspension in sports or sports+ it's almost too firm.

My E70 had dynamic suspension from memory, it’s a while ago but think I drove it in sport a lot. Found the F15 I test drove to be quite floaty on poor roads and leant a lot more in roundabouts.

That’s not great but white is equally as bad. Washed mine on Sat, one run out on Sunday and it was terrible covered in salt. Gave it a blast down last night but after a short run again today it’s not looking too white.

Popping it in sport would make a big difference, it really firms it up. Almost too much on some roads.

Could have even been leaking air springs, ours felt a lot tighter even in comfort once we had ours replaced

The F15 was a brand new demo so can’t imagine there was anything wrong with it. The F15 was marketed as being a better ie softer ride than the E70 so think it was just that development.

Squealing brakes - What is the best cure for this? Happens after the car has been sitting a couple of hours - is there anything that can be done/applied to prevent or is it just something to be expected. I had it on the e70 too when you first get in it but it seems way louder in the f15 - even the neighbours know when I’m leaving the house

The shopping trolley squeal. The only way i have ever cured it on previous BMWS of mine was Fit new genuine disks and pads. Common across the range but non genuine disks and pads make it 10X worse from experience.

Makes sense thanks for that! Sounds like a mk2 escort pulling up to the first stage :joy:.
If that’s the only cure I may live with it a while until I need to change them

Bizarrely even BMW admit there is no remedy for it. I have read about Replacement brakes, keeping the brakes clean, and bedding the brakes in, but apparently it will always come back.

I wonder if you tried the old fashioned way would it help, by removing the pads and sticking a load of grease on the back of them.

Take the pads out, clean then up, grease them up. Because of the size of the calipers and the design it's easy to wash off any grease on the pads over time.

Have the calipers been painted recently?

My last X5 and F30 both had it and new disks and pads from BMW sorted it. Done my head in. At slow speed driving through town you could see people turning their head lol
