Me and a mate have a 2000 SAXO VTS 1.6 lane rally car...............
On the 'Its not the boxing day rally' we seemed to be loosing electrical power half way through so I decided to retire the car and get it home as we could not see anything obvious wrong and it was snowing! We got the car home, just, the wipers stopped 30ft from my house and the car stopped itself 20seconds after I parked it, the battery was at 5volts. We noticed that the alternator terminal was nearly broken off the stud but the nut was spinning so we pulled the alternator out and connected the feed to the top of the alternator on the advice of an auto spark as we could not be sure of the original studs connection. Charged battery, refitted alternator.
Car now will not start, it brings up the immobiliser light on the dash and we have no fuel pump or spark though it will turn over so it seems the immobiliser is stopping it.
so far..................
- Checked all fuses, fine
- Locked and unlocked car
- Disconnected and reconnected battery with ignition on
- Fitted new ignition pick up ring, the plastic ring around the barrel
- Sent the ECU away to get it unlocked, no different! The guy says cannot guarantee the ECU is ok but he has tested ones and can send me one of them for another £30! Not happy about this but I don't even know if the immobiliser IS the problem or if the ECU is fried, unlocked or what!
I have a friend that's a Citroën mechanic though he is only there 6 months. He said to try the pick up ring on the ignition and failing that I would need to bring it in but they need 2 keys, I only have 1 key and anyway I am damned if I am paying main dealer prices for a Saxo!!! They may not be able to fix it anyway. Lisburn Car Electrics told me they couldn't do anything and to take it to Citroen!!!!
I have a Haynes manual on it's way to me for relay and wiring diagrams.
Next idea is to check if the Fuel pump is getting power and if not (and it probably isn't) force it and after that try a new multifunction relay (the big one under the ECU). I am thinking the ECU might be toast or a relay has burnt contacts due the falling voltage.
Does anyone have any ideas on this as we just don't know now?
Also does anyone have a car the same that I could try my ECU in their car? It's a 3 plug Magnetti Marelli 48P2.xx, it would be a fantastic help!
