Bit of an unusual one here.
My wife and I owned a 2009 Saab 1.9 TiD, the car we used to own passed me last week and i thought i was seeing things, but a dvla check revealed the car is taxed and tested.

Here's the catch... car was seized by police mid 2018 for no insurance, it needed a mountain of work so was decided to just scrap it. Paperwork with the recovery company all filled out to say vehicle would be scrapped and V5 filled out to say the same.

As the vehicle was supposed to be scrapped and all paperwork filled out to say so. I'm curious is this worth following up with DVLA if something dodgy has gone on here with a vehicle that is supposed to no longer exist.

So you never got a certificate of destruction ?

No doubt with any vehicle seizures etc, there is all sorts of dodgy backhander deals going on.

Guy I know well has the licence for the destruction of vehicles and it is water tight.
He had the contract for scrapping all the Navaras and a yard very close to my house had 100’s of them in it awaiting a date with the crusher.
Guy who works there was telling me about one with tiny miles and fully loaded with all the toys and he begged to buy it but no can do.

I’d say anyone granted that licence for destruction and caught to be abusing it would be in huge trouble

It would certainly seem like some sort of deal has gone on. I wasn't there the day it was seized or the day the paperwork at the recovery company was filled out, but from what i understand, the car was to be dismantled and parts sold on so recovery company could get their costs back and the V5 filled out to say it was to be scrapped

I don't think anything is set in stone. If it is above board and all the paperwork is done, there is no reason why any car can't be put back on the road.

As everyone knows, there is very little above board with the law or this sort of thing here.

I’d the same thing happen with a Freelander I owned years ago. I wrote it off to the extent where the front subframe was pushed back about 4 inches and the engine was against the bulkhead, but as it was on finance it caused a lot of hassle. The end result was that the vehicle was released by the finance company to be sold to a local Land Rover specialist as parts only and the book was sent off to the DVLA with a letter returned from them to myself stating that the car was destroyed.

It’s back on the road today with no doubt some poor unsuspecting bastid driving it without a care in the world after being raped for it.

"Light panel damage all it needed was a bump strip and a light bulb..."

When I say above board I mean paperwork wise. As long as it all checks out there isn't much that can't be put back on the road regardless of where the police or insurance company say it should go. I bought and sold a cat B car a while ago and had no issues, when realistically it must have originally been recommended for dismantling. Taxed, motd and insured, there was nothing that stopped it from being on the road.

I am nearly certain this is being used as a courtesy car for a local Land Rover repair centre!

There was nothing to stop the many thousands of perfectly good cars on the scrappage scheme being resold or re-used either.....except legal barriers to state they could not be.

If their legal rules state it is going to be scrapped, destroyed etc etc....then they should abide by their own rules, and not allow people within the system to make a few quid on the side by bypassing their rules

As far as I’m aware the vehicles that are forfeited and remain uncollected go to either auction or to a salvage yard to be stripped for parts

Slight thread derail...but what is the story with wholesale Navarra scraping?

Chassis where bending and Nissan gave huge discounts to customers to replace with a newer ‘fixed’ one.
