Speakers

looking to update the speakers in the VX220 as drivers one is a bit dodgy

Not looking to go mad as to be honest the road noise etc is bad.

The speakers are 6.5 inch

What would people recommend?

I like Rainbow Sound Line, but fit some extra sound deadening at the same time.

EVERY speaker needs an amp........
Though if you mean a separate amp, then agreed, almost every speaker will sound better with dedicated power amplification.
I doubt if the OP wants the extra weight or complexity though.

Those Rainbows might be a bit overkill in a Lotus/VX

There's not an awful lot of room behind the speaker either.

You could probably fit an amp up under the pass side of the dash

Probably better with earphones though lol

You can buy tiny, powerful amplifiers these days chum, but they will be fine on a decent head unit.

i was talking separates, most radios have it built in im sure you knew its what i meant?
