So, I've had a modified policy on my cars for a couple of years, which states that modifications are covered like for like.

One has been written off and the claim assessor is now telling me that the mods are not covered like for like in the event of total loss. Does anyone familiar with these policies know if that is the case? Seems a bit pointless, at least on cheaper cars since most damage will write them off.

No matter what, best thing is to sit down with a decent broker and your car life is an open book, tell them what you need and then things are done correctly. No nasty surprises then in a worst case scenario

When they write the car off they value the car as it sits, complete with mods, my RS wheels made a whole Ā£200 diffrence to my pay out on the Focus. So yes you will get more for the car than if it was standard. It sort of makes sense when you think about it. If you fit 10k of mods to a new car then write it off 10 years later it is not reasonable to expect the insurance company to pay 10k for 10 year old mods.

Where like for like is great is if the car is repairable as they will replace the modified parts with modified parts, rather than standard parts. Some policies will charge extra for mods but only replace them with standard or not take them into consideration at all when calculating the total loss value

Surely you disclose the modifications to them?
Isn't that the whole purpose, and they then put the premium up accordingly to cover the mods

I did but as Pumesta says, they only pay out on the value of the mods in the event of a write off, which in my case is apparently **** all šŸ˜’
