The simplest and cheapest option outside of public roads would be to rent Bishopscourt for the day. No timing gear just an open 1/4 mile flat out acceleration or even just the 8th and onto the drift loop. But its a zillion miles from cash rich Hillsborough, and the day punters that would turn up. Plus its hardly the most attractive place on the planet. But perfect for putting a supercar through its paces in a safe environment.

No-one wants to pay for a nice docile ascent up to 70mph in a Lamborghini.

They're only paying for a photograph, it just so happens that the owners/drivers of the cars offer you a free run in their at the same time. Great coincidence ;)

+1 for the track idea. I would attend if it was a closed track and both offer the car and take a run out in a few.

I can only remember one that was set up for 10 minutes. At the end of the day everyone is warned not to speed. So I don't see what the problem is with having the PSNI present

there where speed traps going up the hill and coming down, they where driving up and down the road trying to catch people out ,there was also someone getting something for driving to fast in the car park:worried:.i also nearly got my rs6 wiped out at the round about by some ****er thinking it was ok to go right round the round about in the wrong lane, luckily i spotted him and put the foot down or he would have been into the side of me.there was also a ****er in a v10 m5 not partaking in the event trying to race everyone. I'm not sure if ill take my car this year,it gets to busy its a nightmare to get into the car park, marshals telling you your not allowed into the car park that must be blind and can't see the dots on your windscreen, also i think the hard shoulders need coned off (which will never happen)as theres ****ers pull out who really don't give a ****.its a good event but I'm asking my self is it worth the hassle?:worried:

We would love to take the event to bigger places (the maze for one) problems are trying to keep it local to Hillsborough, and the minute you have it on closed roads you need a track license which very few have.

What's special about Hillsborough?

And you won't need a licence for the track. Look at the number of TrackSkills track days and privately runs events on the cake see at the Kirkistown. You'll only need a race licence for timed racing.

Supercar Sunday is part of the Hillsborough Oyster Festival dude.

Regardless, its still a great event to see some amazing cars up close and experience them first hand. It's not meant to be a full-blown supercar experience like track days and so on. It's just a fun way for car enthusiasts to raise money for charity and enjoy themselves, which is the primary purpose of the event.

sounds like its those that offer their car/time for free that are taking a sizable risk - either with other idiots on the road trying to 'race' them... or with police actively monitoring speed.

obviously the speed limits need to be adhered to... but you'd think the cars taking part could be afforded short accelerations above 70mph to at least show the punters what the car can do - and more so sound like ? in an ideal world if it was possible to cone off the fast lane up and down for the supercars only... and allow them some latitude to accelerate out of each roundabout a little more than 70mph... it would be safer - and a better experience ?

I'm not sure what the mention of needing a license for closed road events either ? how would it differ from a track day ?

problem with a track day/closed road event is you'd end up most likely adding considerably more wear and tear to the car than a short run up/down the A1.

fair play to the organizers... as i imagine this is a proper pain in the ass to both organize... and manage on the day

I've the TVR down for this, got the paperwork a few days ago..

Now I'm hoping the car will be ready in time, it's currently on axle stands getting some TLC and it's probably due a throttle balance :relieved:

I'm not going to be breaking the law.. that includes drawing any lines up the road in rubber - there are offences worse than 3 points for hitting 71mph :grinning:

I did the event last year.

The police where there as stated but they handed out no speeding tickets as I was assured by the organisers that no one would get one unless it was getting ridiculous.

A few years back there was a guy in a Lambo clocked at 170 coming down the hill, 2 years back there was a Mk2 Escort drifting around every round about, both drivers where told not to come back after the police had a word with the organiser's.

In the case of them looking for someone in the car park it was that a member of the public had claimed that a Range Rover had intentionally tried to run them over.

The biggest problem is the traffic after lunch time in the area, in the morning the roads are quiet and its great.

It would be better if it was done at Bishopscourt or Kirkistown IMO.

That sounds sensible Smithers.. Is it the sort if things you can do a couple of hours in the morning and leave?

Could be tempted to bring the noisy machine if the police do actually have a common sense approach...

You can leave when you want and the more cars that participate the better as last year there was a big shortage.

The police got me at speed and never did anything. Still had a panic attack though!

Cool, will have a think about it... Would be happy to do a bit for charity, and nice to take kids (big or small) put for a wee blast... Not that a 4 door M3 is anywhere close to being a super car! But the noise it makes is!!

The guy in the mk2 on the roundabout is someone a lot of people on here would be familiar with. Car is sold last I heard, sadly.

What about this car? would it qualify? It is hassle to get in an out of thou an adjusting straps with every passenger. Obviously would have to be a good day too lol

Perfect, supply sunglasses and the marshalls help those unfamiliar with harnesses.

I think you would enjoy seeing passenger's having fun, I did. Except for a 10 year old who asked me if we would be going this fast the whole time as he didn't like going fast!?!?!
