Didn’t realise the Rivian was so small. Especially so compared to the Ford F-150.

Like that Maserati, preferably in white.

I didn't think a Rivian would ever be described as "small" 😇

Maybe something else over there is even more gargantuan, but it's still not exactly compact 🙃

Brilliant episode! Loved the Rubystone GT3 at the end 😍

Loads of EV lovers on here now, but they definitely aren't the way forward. The infrastructure isn't there and there isn't the money to back it up. Don't get me wrong, I like the Taycan and the GT but I think if this carbon neutral fuel becomes affordable, it will take over EV. All those big companies who pledge to go all electric will go back one day. Mark my words!😂

Brilliant episode, fast paced and loads of content, really enjoyed it.

Makes all the episodes that are based 90% on the one story look very bland.

Now if only they could make a series with more than 5 episodes...

Great news
I enjoyed that episode too but I fell asleep near the end and missed all the electric car stuff.

If formula 1 is gonna use synthetic fuel by 2026 then surely that’s the future?
Like all the r&d over the years from f1, nasa, the military etc etc that has tricked down to road cars and the public

If was really surprised they said it was just a drop into any petrol engine!

Formula 1 is aiming to field a generation of new power unit by 2025 – and the championship wants that engine to be powered by 100% sustainable ‘drop-in fuel’ designed to help Formula 1 achieve its goal of being Net Zero Carbon by 2030.

This 100% sustainable ‘drop-in fuel’ – meaning it can be used in a standard internal combustion engine without any modification to the engine itself – will be laboratory-created, using components that come from either a carbon capture scheme, municipal waste or non-food biomass.

It’s estimated that there will be 1.8 billion cars on the road by 2030, with only 8% of those pure Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

Feck the milk floats.

Synthetic fuel won't replace current petrol use without massive taxes and/or subsidies. But it could be a way of keeping more specialist type cars running in the longer term.

But then you can run a normal engine on hydrogen directly as well. Not much different than running on LPG or whatever.

Hydrogen is the real future, whether directly or in fuel cells. BEV is nice but it's not the future. It's part of the future, just not the whole future. Or the sole future.

£3 a litre is their goal in 2027 😬
That's pretty much petrol now :innocent: 🙈🤫

Synthetic fuel is going to be very expensive.
Hydrogen is going to be very expensive.

Electricity, I can make on the roof of my house for fairly low cost. The idea that the "infrastructure isn't there" is nonsense. The future of normal domestic cars in Europe is going to be electric.

Hydrogen is made from electricity and water, lol. You can make it at home with your solar panel :innocent:

And it's no more difficult or expensive to distribute than, say, LPG.

But you are right, for now, for most domestic use it will be electric only. With current tax subsidies that is a no-brainer.

If you can afford to buy one. And if you have access to home charging. And as long as those tax subsidies remain.

"Green" doesn't enter any part of that equation for 99.9% of all electric car drivers :innocent:
