Small update.

Still awaiting the parts from Japan. Had to go back to them as some were out of production but I think all our now there and ready to be shipped.

Started grinding back parts of the powder coat where it will be metal on metal so no bolts have the ability to loosen. Also drilled out the holes for the slide pins to get rid of any “crust” and washed out with gunk.

I have done the same with all of the bushing surfaces in the wishbones and mounting points for all of the powder coated bits.

Also got myself a few rolls of kunifer to make the brake lines and a bending tool for it.

Next up was to start to clean the gearbox and engine again properly. Didn’t go nuts on the inside of the bell-housing but tidied it up a bit.

New parts going in there when the clutch is going in and it’s going back together.

I have got “aluminium cleaner” stuff to clean the outside of the gearbox/sump and parts of the block but need to wait till it’s light at the weekend as you couldn’t use it inside.

It’s essentially acid so it’s not good for you and will eat everything in sight inside. It'll also probably rust every bit of exposed steel too so best not to.

After the cleaning it’s time to bush everything and have it ready for assembly.
Hopefully the tegiwa and amayama orders arrive over the next while and we can get stuck in to building it up.

💪👌

The garage will be full lol and I’ll not know where to start.

Actually a great site (amayama) and all done by part numbers and exploded diagrams, the customer service portal is great too and they do lots of makes
of car.

Thought everything was ready but they are awaiting 1 more part.

Just got an email so this is some
Of the list 🙈. Getting excited now.

Spending the evenings also looking at wheel fitment. Have to go by pictures really but I’m thinking a 17x8.5 or 17x9 square setup.

I haven’t decided on the wheels just yet but this pic is kind of what I’m looking for width and looks wise. These are square 9s and the rears do sit out a little, but it’ll be between 8.5 or 9s.

Boring update lol,

The diff, gearbox, block, intake manifold, water pump all had to be properly gunked and degreased prior to the aluminium cleaning. (Hopefully tomorrow)

Made the decision not to paint the engine/diff and box after much deliberation.you’d have to split every bolt off the block and the gearbox/bell housing to have it not looking like a mess of silver in my opinion. Decided to just deep clean and then aluminium clean everything and leave it like that.

Block and gearbox look like they’ll come up ok actually.

That’s them gunked and degreased.
Diff will maybe take a bit of paint in that cast portion.

Order has left Japan so should be here Monday/Tuesday.

Clutch wise went for an oem disc but ordered an ACT HD pressure plate so it’ll come next week too.
Currently measuring up kunifer brake and fuel lines so get those in and when the order arrives we should be close to getting things finally bolted on.
In the spirit of doing things right I’m trying tonight to split hoses off the water pump and take the “tighteners” and jubilee clips off to get zinc plated along with the rest.
They’re proving stubborn so may need hoses also

Once they’re off everything is ready for aluminium cleaning and then we wait the part order to get started. 👌

Got hit with import taxes of just over 200 quid which I wasn’t expecting. But still leaves it all way cheaper than buying oem in the uk.

No date yet,. I’ve learned to be disappointed by doing so on parts of the build in the past so it’ll be done when it’s done lol.

Anything nice coming from Japan for yours,.?

Whatever you don't. Don't keep a spreadsheet tally of what you spend

I did one for the MK2. Found in on my work computer the other week. Was nearly sick at how much I spent!

Oh I have one and all, I’ll hopefully use it as a justification of never being able to sell it. 😜

Or when you sell. You open it in a few years. And you start crying on how much you lost.

Maybe that was just me hahahhaha

It's like Christmas every day at your place, basically a new car in boxes 😁

It is good fun unwrapping and opening all the new bits. You properly feel like a kid again.

Haha been there with a previous car I did.
Spent loads on it and then sold it for a bout a fiver in comparison.

Now that I have the new adjustment bolts and nuts I need I can finally leave the bucket full of original nuts and bolts along with them to get zinc plated.

I’m glad I waited as wouldn’t have been happy with them being different colours. 👌

You never get a penny back from any improvements or modifications. If anything the car might be worth less.

It's purely for our own enjoyment, and that's fine

You’re exactly right. I started this journey off 3 odd years ago hardly knowing how to change a set of brake pads. Although it’s taken a lot longer than anticipated it’s been a real knowledge accumulation just getting to this stage.

Taking everything apart to find out how it all works independently and then how It all works together has been class and well worth it.

Few more bits sorted.

Rocker cover thanks to @Neil_M

ED5FEC0A-2FCE-4A93-B905-A7E865A8594D.jpeg

Clutch and subframe collars for front and back arrived too.

Also started the aluminium cleaning.

Gearbox and diff came up reasonably well.
I might paint the cast part of the diff black but will wait and see what it dries out like tomorrow. It’s still a bit scabby looking when wet.

Will do the intake manifold, steering rack and block tomorrow.

Finally getting to a stage where we can put it all back together. 👌💪
