Buy a sport one so it has the factory LSD

Make sure its not a rusty b*stard and you're landed

Facelift one's like mine come with the later M50/M52 engine which has Vanos, and doesnt give any bother provided its been regularly serviced

Half your budget will get you a really nice sport!

Are 944 parts expensive? Do they share parts with any VAG stuff? The pop up headlights must surely be a weak point on them, ripe for getting lazy I'd say!

Just remembered about old Volvos, off to look at 850 t5Rs and S70 Rs :grinning:

Just seen that, the old Volvos are great cars although with enthusiastic driving mine went through a lot of front tyres and they are big ole barges if all you want is fun.

There's a nice wee 205 Gti in the Classifieds there mate. Maybe you're looking for something with a bit more grunt?

I'd go for your typical mk2 gti Golfs, mk1 MX-5 or Gsi Cavaleir is something a bit different :grinning:

For 4k you can definitely get a turbo'd MX-5. That's where my money would be going! I will own one some day.

MG-Mad - 205s just don't do it for me, maybe a bit too small. That's why I was looking at the 850 Volvos, nice bit of poke with some practicality if needed, this would be my only car so maybe some element of handiness required if the need arose. No sofabed from Ikea's gonna fit in a 205 or mx-5 unfortunately

Lyons - Yeah, thinking maybe a stock standard saloon version might be the way to go.

I would love an M3 saloon! Excellent choice (y).

E36 m3, Porsche 944, or for something at bit different an XR4i or XR4x4 sierra... Can usable saff cosworths still be bought for 4k?? All of those have bottomed out and values heading up, so you should make a few quid whenever its time to sell.

£4k would get you nice example of those. It'd also possibly get you a rough Sapphire Cosworth.

Mk2 GTI 16v, look after it and love life for a year then make a profit.

They are increasing in value at a shocking rate.

I would be looking for some kind of supermini like an Uno Turbo or a Daihatsu Charade Gtti. Pretty had to find good ones id say.
