I find it difficult to compare dealer prices to justify the warranty costs.

Dealer repair costs arent realistic of a good mechanic/specialist prices.

I’d take my mechanic any day over an apprentice in a main dealer working on my car tbh

As above, this thread would def make me think twice about buying a Bmw.

Are the turbos made from chocolate?

In fairness they were 12 year old...
I made a call to take a warranty, some don’t - personal preference. But on this occasion it’s came good for me.

Got the car back. Acceleration ‘feels’much stronger.

@PDK did they give you the hire car for the full time it was in getting fixed and was it a bmw from the retailer who was repairing yours? My policy runs out soon and I will be taking the comprehensive cover but unsure about adding the insured emergency breakdown cover. Even if you opt to not take it you are still covered for breakdown as long as its more than 0.5 mile away from home. They will still collect it and take it to the nearest BMW dealer.

It’s not just bmw though. One of the reasons I moved my E63 on was that I was absolutely terrified of something going wrong as I knew it would likely cost the price of a reasonable car to repair if gearbox or engine related.

Cars are not what they used to be anymore and it’s only going to get worse in years to come.

BMW emergency arranged a hire car with enterprise. Yes, you keep the courtesy car for as long as the dealer has yours.

Very good. I read online it was only for a period of 2 days. Took the comprehensive cover out again but didn't include the emergency services. The standard breakdown recovery will do fine :grinning:

Technically it is only 48hour courtesy cover yes. It’s to put pressure on the dealer to prioritise the job and get it repaired within that time frame.

If they dealer doesn’t then after the 48hours the hire car bill is put onto them.

Anybody have any recommendations re aftermarket warranty?

I'm about to buy an 2013 Audi A6 2.0 TDI from Arnold Clark . The car is out of AUDI warranty. It has 63k miles so I believe I can't get many of the "platinum plus" spec warranties for cars that are sub-60k. Arnold Clark are offering a two year warranty for £749, the price of which seems to be similar to common aftermarket ones, but I'm not sure if I should bother with it at all.
