Gave mine a clean inside and out, including the inside of the petrol cap with some apc as it was rank then Adam fitted genuine Audi mud flaps to the front, forgot to take a pic.

Spent most of Saturday lying under the car doing some preventive maintenance (removing surface rust and spraying arms etc). I’m glad the old man helped out as I instantly regretted starting it.

Bought a new car. First time straying from the VAG range. Have to say, the sound is incredible with the KMS system on it. Collins remap and intercooler too. Supposedly around the 320hp, plenty of torque that’s for sure. Heated seats and satnav actually make it a nice place to sit. Only kept my Mk5 GTI for 3 months so god knows how long I’ll have this one.

The noise really is something else, and they are a brilliant all round. Enjoy.

The mighty mk4 turned 17yrs old recently and 100k today. Its been a long slow process, but it is finally at a level I am happy with it. A huge amount of parts replaced and many hours spent working on it, but glad its going well now.

I remember the mk4 being released and being lifted in a friends dads brand new one. Those instrument clusters are so cool. Ahead of their time.

That looks gorgeous, love them in red. You'll probably not go back to vag after witnessing the heated windscreen over the winter

Why couldn't they give that patent to everyone else 😒 such a good idea

Me too, I sketched an mk4 Anniversary model whilst in school for a GCSE project. It was brand new back then, and now I would still love to own one.

Pulled it to pieces again 😂

Getting no heat from my vents so decided I'd pull the unit out and blast some air around the propellor

20191106_102055.jpg
that's after a good clean, it was filthy before, there was a noticeable difference in fan response but still no heat

I'm thinking I've bought a dud thermostat as a new one went in 3k miles ago, or else the water pump needs done, or heater control valve.....

I'm hoping to fck it's not the heater matrix 😒

I did have a brief stint where the coolant temp crept up high while I was sat idle so maybe I just need to bleed the system again

That'll be a friend for life but in a good way!

I bought mine with 100k and its taken 3 years to get it up to 120k. I have zero need for a diesel but can't bring myself to get rid of it!

Finally got rid of a really irritating humming type noise that came on at exactly 30 mph and then mostly eased off from then on. I had replaced bearings, drive shafts, checked brakes, checked gearbox, adjusted tyre pressures and rotated tyres without any joy. Visited Armstrong Beatties to have wheels balanced as suggested by someone who had had a similar problem and ABs identified a warped tyre. Replaced with a couple of Firestones, tracking adjusted and the noise has gone! It had been driving me nuts so Im so pleased!

Also took the A3 back to Jason at JW Detailing and he fixed a couple of blemishes Id caused to his fantastic handiwork by my cack handed polishing attempts.

Car now looks and drives better than ever!

Took it over to @RubberLover at Ivan Kerr Bangor for some new boots and hunter alignment. The staff were very easy to talk to. They even wiped the wheels down after refitting and rubbed some tyre shine on the new tyres. Sterling service and nice to meet you Ivan.

A bunch of things arrived today so I got stuck in

Coolant flush will be getting done next week, I think my water pump is leaking as I'm losing coolant, and pressure testing revealed it was being forced from the front of the block, thermostat housing looked dry, but I've an aluminium cover on the way, doing the lot at once

The gaskets and seals will be used when I finally get round to doing the vanos next week at the same time as the water flush.

Removed the front bumper so I could figure out the route which my fog cables took so I could pull them up and cable tie them out of the way, also just wanted to pull the bumper off to have a look at what's in and around there

Then decided to drill a few holes into the headlight covers to see if that will help dissipate the fogging in the headlights and save me having to unclip and re fit the covers regularly.

Cars been making a bit of a creaking noise which I've pinpointed to the engine mounts, new ones arriving next week with two new half shafts courtesy of @Tufty 👍😁

I decided while I had the ramp today I'd do the gearbox oil change, simple enough job and now the shifts are noticeably smoother!

After the car was dropped I fit the new genuine cam sensor and what a difference it's made, car ticks over so much smoother and even quieter too!

Was considering pulling off the rear section of the exhaust to see what she would sound like but the clamp nuts are rusted through so they wouldn't have gone back on easily for mot next month.

More to come next week 😁

Fitted the winters on the Golf. I’d intended on refurbing them while they were off as they are a bit rash, but alas I didn’t get a chance. It’s actually hilarious the difference between handling the X5 wheels and these. The Golf ones feel like toy wheels in comparison!
