Dropped my X5 in for a gps fix and got this Isle of Man green M3 competition out for a 24hr test drive

after putting quite a few miles on it my impressions are it’s brutal power. Delivery is bang on, steering is great but the lack of noise is awful.

for a 500bhp car I’d be expecting popping, banging and farting. All you get is muted burbles. Very disappointing.
Secondly there are the seats. Whilst they are super stiff, hold you perfectly and there is no chance you’re going anywhere in them, but frig they are hard. Uber cool but getting in to them is tough. Getting out of them is painful.

Brutal looking, never mind going lol X5 looking sharp though! Even the last of the previous M4s were strangled by the exhaust particulate filters :worried:

More importantly however I got my E46 back from local painter Eccles Automotive.

Chris has my car to repaint the front bumper and smooth the holes left from previous owners, refurbish the wheels, deal with a rust bubble on a rear arch but most importantly and the final exterior piece of the jigsaw was to fit the CSL bootlid. He also repainted the rear 1/4s and rear bumper too.

I am beyond happy with the final result, and whilst it’s an 18 year old car and -150bhp on its younger sibling I’d far rather be in the E46. A true timeless classic and I love it even more now!

Great news
The e46 is absolutely beautiful. The new m3 🤮 even the grills on the x5 are a bit on the large size but no where near as offensive as the m3.

Very nice Ross!
Are you going to reposition the M3 badge onto the boot lid? Or was the original M3 CSL badge a different shape to fit better?

Wash, polish & wax
First I’ve polished and waxed it from June 2019!
And to think I used to enjoy doing it..I can positively say not anymore, absolutely hateful 😂
This is exactly the reason why I chose a ceramic coating for my car

Details on start button? Easy to fit?

Yea. 5 mins.
Slide ashtray cover to open.
Lift edge of console, gently pop it up, then popped old button free with finger from underneath, disconnect wire and pop new one in!

Here are the details for the RHD S6/RS6 button
