Off to look at a W203 tomorrow for a potential return to bangernomics for a bit.

2006 C180K Avantgarde SE auto with the Sport pack on it. 65K miles, FSH with timing chain changed and 1 owner from new.

Small bit of rust on rear door and a scrape on the bumper. We’ll see how bad the rust is. Facelift W203s usually don’t rust like the pre-facelift so probably quite minor. If it is, that £700 asking price will be a bargain.

Wonder what servicing/reliability is like on something like this
Been looking at these for myself. Can’t see it being any more expensive to run than a 911 or a proper M car. Plus your almost guaranteed it will hold value unless you plan on putting on massive miles.
Has to be silver/grey with black leather for me

I looked at a couple before buying the 911, they've very robust and super VFM, the main issue to be wary of is bodywork. They're aluminium and suffer badly with oxidation, literally every one will have been painted or will need painted. Mechanically they're very reliable, but I found the interior very dated compared to the 911 though.

Interiors are dated for sure, especially the nav unit even just in its appearance on the flip up screen, love the seats though. But what a car to purchase!

I went to look at an A8 at Audi last week that also had a small area of corrosion on the drivers door. My TT also had some on the boot but I assumed I was just unlucky. Has definitely put me off getting something else with an aluminium body!

The only thing mechanically to budget for is a clutch around the 40k mark. Good upgrade is to do a twin plate as its alot lighter. They seem pretty robust. I have just got bad luck and it's broken a belt tensioner but it's going to be an easy fix and shouldn't cost much to sort.

The corrosion thing can be an issue but most of them will have been sorted by now. Nothing wrong with a car that's had a bit of paint as long as its been painted well IMO.

The one I have bought is in good shape bar needing a wheel refurb and the clear coat on the carbon mirrors needs redone.

Even with a breakdown I'm still loving it 😂

Cheers. They do seem great value for money. It would only be a weekend car for me anyway, doing less and less miles so looking at having something a bit more special tucked away for the odd drive out.
Was in a DB9 a few months ago and loved the inside, similar interior to the vantage?

I wouldn't be a big fan of the DB9, crappy auto box.

Edit: clutch issue covered by Pete above. Any pics @big_pete ?

I considered the db9 too, actually looked at a volante but I actually think the vantage is the nicer looking and better sounding car too.

*edit* the interior of the vantage in terms of dash is identical afaik

If you can find a vantage with the power kit (mine has it) it takes it up to 420bhp so goes well too.

Was hoping to have it at the RMS meet on Wed night but not looking likely lol

@Woodcutter only one for now lol

The porsche is in a different league in terms of driving to be honest but the Aston is much more special, sounds nicer and is a real occasion.

If I wanted a b road blast I would take the porsche. If I want to giggle at crackly banging noises the Aston lol

Car looks fantastic @big_pete The wheels really keep it looking modern compared to the usual silver multi spokes you normally see on them.

What's the story with the pick up? Did it break down on you?

Hope to make the Wed night meet myself this week.
